Burning On The Back Of The Pads?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by johnny, May 15, 2026.

  1. Something I have not seen before.

I shall check the age of the pads and the make.
In addition the brake pistons had crud on them that initially looked like the seals but I think it was burnt rubber grease

    Comments welcome

  2. It says Brembo on the pad.

  3. Looks like a rear pad?
If so, could it be dragging slightly and overheating?

  4. Yep its a Brembo and a rear pad

  5. Good suggestion - I once had the rear caliper on the Raptor burst into flames :astonished: when the master cylinder seized and the brake was locked on.

  6. Check callipers for sticking also slave and master cylinders?

  7. If it's got that hot there should be signs of blueing on the disc surely?

  8. It looks like caked on brake dust stuck in whatever grease (ceramic?) was applied

  9. I should add I changed the rear disc too. Spot the cracks

  10. Cracking groovy discs, not a good sign.

  11. As a matter of interest how thick (thin) is that disk? It looks to have quite a lip on its outer edge but that could just be the angle of the photo.

  12. My 916 did the same, bike came to a gradual stop with the rear wheel locked up and the pads on fire.

Caliper appeared to be OK initially but a year or so later, it was found to be leaking.

  13. Lip was not great and thickness OK. Disc was on the bike for close on 24 years and 44K Miles

  14. About time it got changed then?

  15. Good Plan
