Yes, I kept the V4 for long road trips where I have to take the kitchen sink with me . Still a little too road oriented in it's current fit. Bars, rally seat, bash plate, high mud guard and tail grip all out of stock. Due in Jul-Sep. French TET is just going to have to wait a little longer...
I 3D printed a bracket for the 12mm aux bar to mount the XT2. Tested fit done I took off the screen and dash backing to search out the jst pig tail for power. To my horror it's not there. USB-A and C connections under the clocks with rubber bungs but I want a clean look. Going back into the shop tomorrow to see if they'll up the wiring diagram to see if it's hidden under the headlight. I hope not as that will be a pain to get to.
I’d think that you’re looking in the right place for the gps plug, that is where I found mine (I have the original DX) Which dealer fitted the Termi
Test ride the V2 today. Thoughts compared to my V1. Bike with only 39 miles on the clock. Good points - low down torque of the engine is a big improvement. It runs in 4th at 39mph with no problem. Engine is very smooth. Seat isn’t quite as high and I can tip toe with the standard seat. A low seat might make it flat foot. Side stand is loads better, bike is stable and the stand itself looks more solid and better quality. Engine heat no longer appears a problem. No longer seems top heavy but the demo bike was only half filled with fuel. No need for crash bars with built in side protectors. Not so good points- Switchgear isn’t great imho. Indicator button is too small. Dash is too small. Some of it is difficult to read and the indicator warning is not very bright. Current portrait version is loads better. Engine lacks character and doesn’t have the airbox howl of the 950. Seat started to cause pain in my thigh towards the end of the ride, as if a frame tube was sticking in. Screen is no better than the 950. Still get buffeting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great bike still and probably better off road than the 950 with the improvements. No one is going to be disappointed. All that said I reckon I could fit Tractive Suspension to mine for half of the cost of the upgrade.
I’ve done the 600mi required for the first service and have the following thoughts so far. I’m 6ft2 and about 115-120kg with kit on. I can’t compare to the original as I’ve had little time on it and it was all on road (service loan bike). Ergonomics. Seat is not the best. It’s narrow up front and that starts hurt after a while, it’s large enough (length) to move about to relieve pressure points and standing up certainly helps. It’s not going to be comfortable going far to get to the off-road adventure stuff. I’ve got the rally seat on back order so will report back after I have had a go at it. I can get my toes down easily enough but the pegs and Leatt boots cause a wider stance. Flat foot both side is not happening easy. The tank is reportedly narrower, and this must help as with the Leatt knee braces (X Frame Hybrid) on I did not feel my knees were pushed out when seated. Standing up the thin seat really come into its own. Its very comfortable between the knees with braces. The screen is small enough not to bother a taller rider. I use a Nexx XRally helmet with peak fitted so there is going to be some turbulence around the helmet at speeds greater than 40mph. Did not notice any issues with the stock mirrors, these were swapped out for Double Take mirrors about the 300mi point with no noticeable buffeting from them. Switch gear on the right is fine. The new layout on the left will take some getting used to. I also battle with the indicator. This is just muscle memory; it will come with time. Brakes. The front abs works a treat, had to grab a handful for a very sudden need to stop approaching a roundabout. In the Enduro mode off-road I didn’t find it interfering on the front, but this is likely a skill level thing. Back brake is very weak; I had to push it a long way to get it to slow my down in some off-road downhill sections. Might need to adjust position of the pedal as when in the offroad position it’s still not level with peg. Front and back levers have large range of movement and can be set for a great bite point with two fingers without breaking knuckles. Auto Shifter. Not smooth in first gear change but this is normal on most. Rest of the gears up and down are ok. The Leatt boots (8.5s) were new with the bike and super stiff. I had to work on a shifter lever setting as the off-road was too high and the standard too low. I’ve had loads of miss shifts and a few false neutrals. Boots are bedding in and shifting is getting better. This is purely down to operator input. First 50mi done in touring boots were just fine. Lever is very sensitive so tapping it from below when repositioning boot will cause the engine to cut thinking you are selecting another gear. Suspension. This is my first non-electronic suspension for many many years so I’m still getting used to it. I checked to make sure the settings were as per the book. It was there or there abouts, one or two clicks out on rebound. Preload was as per book. I find the suspension hard on the road, great on the fast off-road sections and too soft on the technical tank track woops. It did not bottom out at any point, most likely my skill and slower speed stopped this. Progressive rear shock helping here. It would expect I will need to respring as I like my pies and will be putting luggage on it soon. Front shock/larger wheel saved me from a big hit where I would have been in the dirt on the V4. Engine. Pre 600 mile service – Even with the limiter it’s rather sprightly on the road. Off road it’s an animal, plenty of rooster tails on the range roads. More power than you will ever need in the dirt. Low down in the range doing the slow tech stuff it was great. It can stall on you if you take it a bit low in the rev range but not an issue once you’ve done it and know where it needs a few more revs. About 350mi was on road, the other 250 was done on Salisbury Plain training area (range roads, tank tracks and single track). Only tested ‘Touring’ and ‘Enduro’ modes. ‘Sport’ will come after first service. Stock tyres (Scorpion Rally STR) grip well enough on the road and off-road in the dry they were fine. Have not tested in the rain yet. Will get wet on way to service so can report back. Going to swap out to Mitas soon. I’ve waffled on enough, if you have specific questions let me know.
Your findings were similar to mine on the test ride. I don’t think the engine has the character of the 950 but it does have more low down torque. Less engine heat is welcome though. Mine is fully paid for with many useful additions. I didn’t even ask on the cost to change as whatever the cost, it’s not something I would consider currently. I’m at an age where my next bike with probably need to be smaller and lighter so will see what emerges over the next year. Enjoy your new bike. It’s a beauty.
