916 Poor Throttle Response And Stalling

  1. Afternoon all, went for a 60 mile ride this morning, bike started as usual with first stab at the button, i left it idling while i got my gear on and noticed the idle speed getting slower and slower, i gave the throttle a blip and got a very poor response, got on the bike and pulled away and it was kangarooing down the road until it eventually sorted itself out...first time its ever acted like this in my 4 years of ownership, and i stopped at some lights about 10 miles into the ride and the bike stalled, although it did start again immediately, something else that is a first, it completed the rest of the ride without incident.

Any pointers to what could be going on?, i checked the fuel lines for splitting when i changed the fuel filter over the winter and all is ok, and the bike has ran perfectly since - until today, TPS setting out maybe?, dodgy fuel pump relay?, although i always hear the priming hiss when first turning the key.

Any advice welcome and appreciated as always.

    TIA Phil.

  2. Could well be the fuel pump relay. I had an issue years ago, very similar to yours. The engine would cut out and splutter at idle. Especially when hot. It turned out to be the fuel pump relay dropping out due to a combination of low voltage and heat buildup, made worse if the lights were on (low output generator on the SPS). Changed the relay. All good since. That was probably about 15 years ago!

  3. I always carry a spare relay but it could also be the fuse just in front of it. The holders don't get better with age. Corrosion or just a poor contact. Happend to me last year.

  4. Fuel line popped off inside the tank? Happened to me last year because I used a bit of vaseline to fit new ones. Similar misfire symptoms.

  5. The fuse on mine melted, it and the fuse holder basically melded into a big lump of plastic snot.

Actually it was still working as the circuit was sound and fuse not blown but no doubt would have failed eventually.

Otherwise, dodgy relay, wiring (injectors or ignition), spark plug, HT lead, coil, leaky fuel line or TPS?

Also had an incident where it suddenly started running badly, wouldn't idle and was popping and farting, turns out one of the retaining screws for the TPS to the throttle body had broken, allowing the TPS to flex with the throttle.

It looked OK as the screw head was still in place but it had snapped off where it enters the throttle.
