1200 Revs Dropping/stalling When Engine Hot + Pull Clutch In

  1. Hi,

I've got an issue and I've had it for a quite a few months but it seems to be getting worse. Whenever the bike is hot (100c) and I'm coming to a stop or in very slow moving traffic and you pull the clutch in, the revs dip then normally bounce back up again. However when the bike is hot, it seems to dip slightly too much causing the bike to stall. It's fine when the engine is cooler/cold, but happens a lot when the bike is at temp.

I've recently had a full service on the bike and it's still got the same issue. Any ideas on what it could be/what I can check?

  2. Do these have an Idle Control Valve (ICV)?
If so, you may be lucky and be able to flush it out with carb cleaner. Otherwise, you may be looking at a new ICV.
Do the cheap stuff first, in particular hoses for air leaks. A TPS reset wouldn’t hurt.

  3. So, the stepper motor is incorporated into the throttle bodies not a traditional ICV set up.
    For starters -
Check for air leaks, even onto the MAP sensor(s).

  4. You could also give it a clean on the electrical side as well.

  5. Some Googling suggests it may be possible to clean the integrated stepper motor idle valve in the throttle body by cycling the valve using Melcodiag and spraying carburettor cleaner into the valve.

  6. It's suddenly getting worse and seems low power when low revs (sub 3k) and engine is up to temp. Feels very sluggish at times but then fine once you open it up. Booked into the garage for now.. will report back once it's fixed

  7. Does the bike have an EXBV?

  8. It's locked open
