ok so yes somewhat click bait title but it really does i dont know if its the fact that i did 50 miles in the 999r being very not bike fit or my bony ass on the pani seat pad anyways, i can now see why you lot ride like gods on newer bikes and i now want one ive never ridden anything newer than an 07 plate 749 but this new stuff is totally different esp coming from a 999r where stop start traffic in 25 degs ambient temp is not ideal it was a very well organised event run by woodcote events hosted by ducati aylesbury and i met some lovely fellow bikers and chatted to mike from ducati who is a thoroughly nice chap onwards to find my non ragged tri options spec 899 and thanks to oyb and woodcote events for yesterday and letting me on a lovely yellow fast thing
It would seem your advancing years require a change of bike style, perhaps the armchair that is the multistrada beckons?
There seems to be a few of these events going on at the moment, I saw Bucks Biker had been to one - test riding a pancake V2 and then getting photos done with you bike. How do I get on one?
Well, I stand to the left of the bike, so the side stand leans the bike towards me. Then, and this will take a bit of practice, in one movement hold the bars whilst cocking your right leg over the motorcycle so you end up seated. Imagine a dog taking a pee, but your front ‘paws’ are on the ‘bars not the ground. Be patient, it’ll take a few attempts.
i almost thought the same but then i went out for a spirited blast on the 999r and all is well again clearly my bum prefers the older stuff.. you know what they say about experience vs youth
Easy with the standard seat in low or a low seat in lowest setting, I'm only 5'11 and a bit and have the high heated seat in the low position, fast armchairs are the future for us advancing in years.
Hate to say it but the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden was a Harley Road King Special. That really was an armchair that was more comfortable than my real armchair at home. Bigger too and unfortunately more than ten times the price. The Triumph Rocket 3 GT I had was pretty good too. Personally I think riding position is as important as plush upholstery, if not more so. I've always found my 1098 SF very comfortable on long rides, even though the padding is pretty skimpy. If you putting too much weight on your backside eventually you're going to get a numb bum. The slight forward cant of the SF seems to be just enough to spread my weight equally between backside, hands and feet. My 1290 Superduke was the same. Remarkably comfy for a supernaked. I suppose it does depend on your height and body shape though. Probably won't be the same for everyone.
Over done 500 miles in the last 2 days on my streetfighter with no pains or sore arse. As said above I think body size and shape makes a massive difference to riding comfort
im supremely bike unfit not having ridden properly for ages and the 999r is quite unforgiving but alles gutte now
Having gone from a 1098 to a Multistrada I can thoroughly recommend this upgrade, I can ride more than twenty minutes without my hips and spine locking up and can walk after a two hour ride.
