Just in "it's not typical British" warm weather or all the time? I don't recall, if I even took notice of, the coolant temperatures I was riding in Italy or the warmer parts of France last year... Stripped the righthand panels off yesterday, crimped expansion vessel hose and removed the rad cap to check that there wasn't air in the top of the rad, there wasn't. On Friday, when we did the work we flushed out the cooling system with water a couple of times before filling with Silkolene MagCool.
Got the rear indicator working on the 899 with a questionable “fix” but I don’t care it’s too bloody hot out there.
After the early morning sun traversed behind my garage, the Pikes Peak came out and got a much needed wash brush up. Which is what I now need, having perspired a lot whilst doing it. Andy
31C briefly on the Pani leaving Aldeburgh an hour ago. Had to stop at Southwold by the pier for 10 minutes to let my legs cool down
we thought about heading to the coast but reckoned it would be rammed. roads busy enough inland but nice in the trees through thetford and elveden. Roll on arse end of nowhere France in week's time
Aldeburgh wasn’t too bad. Cup of tea & s/roll at Munchies with plenty of room to sit. Southwold was stupidly busy. Around the pier & high street it was horrible.
32 on my trip to Wolverhampton Airport (Amelias Cafe) and Clee Hill then back to Hereford, very hot and bothered but a nice breeze on the hill.
Do you mean Halfpenny Green Airport? 30 plus for us today riding to Wells next the Sea from Cambridge. Needs to be renamed Wells fairly near the Sea IMO. Some nice roads along the way, we even rode between a very derelict castles gatehouse at some point which was a new experience for us.
In normal weather it’s in the mid to high sixties when moving, but always does the same thing as yours when at a standstill withe the fans coming on and off, in all weathers.
Well not too close the Sea was busy but we got a parking spot in the motorcycle bay. Saw a 900Ss and then a little later a 749/999 ride along the front.
Well it's still early days, because I now have a failed fuel pump to replace due to the time the bike has spent sitting, but it looks as though the reason my Ugly wouldn't run is indeed due to the starter motor sapping too much away from the battery. This is the first time I've experienced this for myself after owning three for many years, and I have young @finm to thank for planting the seed that this could happen, and the reason that I pursued it as a last possibility. Thank you Jonathan. When it comes to fuel tank expansion on the early Multistrada, I recently quoted 10 mm on another thread, but I've broken all my records it would appear as mine has now grown over 20 mm and because I can't get it to sit right down let alone attach the rear fixing, I might have to use my spare tank which hopefully hasn't grown as much (see below)
how did you diagnose it? plugs out and crank. no spark? in gear, spin the back wheel. plenty spark? for folks that might be interested who haven't seen me craw about it before. not so much as zapping the battery, but more about reducing battery voltage at the Engine ECU, disabling the Coil Divers. with the original battery, I had a good cranking Speed and duration. the fuel pump primed in the usual way and kicked back in during cranking. so the ECU must of been getting a good crank signal. you could use a large car battery and still the starter was drawing more Amps, reducing battery voltage than than the ECU could deal with. there was millivolts in it. with zero starter fault symptoms and every conceivable way of bypassing earths and power supplies carried out. so took a punt on a starter motor. I've been meaning to buy an Amps Clamp ever since. Chortle i'm guessing this was one of, if not thee reason it was traded in. the fault was apparent from the second time i attempted to start it. just after filling it up. first time being 10mins earlier at the Dealership. maybe somebody from up North (from here) who traded it around 2010? could confirm it? intermittent at first, getting progressively worse over a year. to be fair to the Dealership, they did do their best over several visits trying to rectify it. it all came to a head when it wouldn't start outside a competitors workshop. and just after me winding him up too. Great. and just after the warranty had expired. F'ing Great.
That's the one, I put Wolverhampton so those not in the know would have some understanding of location
I didn't do the stroking the wheel thing, it was because I'd exhausted absolutely everything else so decided to try it. Spark is quite inconsistent even now, but it starts and ran on a squirt spray and sounded fine for a few seconds.
Multi went through the Spanish ITV. Result! Now on to the next stage for registration. Need it done soon before the EMM
That's the thing; as far as I can recall temperatures on the open road have remained high 60's ºC wherever I've been riding on both of my 1260 Multis over the last 8 years. Hit traffic and sure, the gauge starts to climb to the point where it cycles the fans on and off between the programmed thresholds. Should be out again on Friday, will check again then.
Discovered a gash in the tread of the rear tyre on the Scrambler, unfortunately too deep not to replace it. You need to remove the crud catcher mounting block which is bolted to the inside face of the swing arm to get the wheel out, what a PITA. Still, wheel out, new tyre fitted and the rear wheel refitted. Hot and sweaty work but had to be done. Andy
Washed mine yesterday. Think it's the second time I've done it in 15 months (Ducati Sunderland washed it once too)
