So what have you done today..?

  1. Picked up push bike from Skipton, that will teach me to read a listing thoroughly.

Luckily I was fairly close for work so just an extra 36 miles there and back.

  3. Funnily enough I got my appointment letter today; apparently a standard rollout to men in their 65th year according to mine. And being done at my GP's surgery.

  4. And when you pass you're told (or I was) that it builds over such a long time that, if you're clear at 65, you always will be.

Walking away it occurred to me that could be code for something else will get you first...

  8. Yesterday. My old man almost died.

He was looking a bit rough so one of my brothers insisted he went to the GP, who took one look at him and sent him to hospital. He had major emergency surgery yesterday from 10am until 4pm and upon opening him up they discovered that he’s riddled with cancer - they found a huge tumour, which caused a perforated bowel which in turn led to severe sepsis, there were various secondaries in his lymph nodes and his spleen had ruptured. They only gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving the operation and said he’d be lucky to make it through the week after, but apparently he’s up and around again today, talking animatedly and asking when he can go home to see his girlfriend.

Tbh, he should have been dead decades ago as he spent 55 years in the chemical industry, inhaling and being doused in all sorts of extremely noxious substances on a daily basis. Most of his workmates didn’t make it out of their 60s, but he’s now 82 and was still doing 10k bike rides until last week.

  11. Something to be aware of is, if it’s over a certain size, you’ll lose your licence until it’s remedied.

  12. Saw this show a few years ago when my Daughter worked as a theatre usher, it's a very good show. Hopefully you find it so too.

  13. I did, thank you; their better lead vocalist was back from when I last saw them and there was at least one other personnel change and all for the better; of all the tribute bands I’ve seen this one is the closest to the original.

  14. Wow, that is extremely lucky that he went to the doctors. Is the cancer curable?

  16. And he only went because my brother hassled him. He thought the pain in his side was just a pulled muscle when in fact it was his large intestine bursting due to the back pressure caused by the tumour blocking it. Minimising serious medical conditions must run in the family tbh as I have left a broken humerus and a broken tibia to heal themselves and I pulled one of my own teeth out this time last year.

The surgeon said she got all the tumours she could see in his abdominal cavity, but who knows what’s going on in other areas of his body and the fact that it was also in the lymph nodes is ominous. He’s quite sanguine about it tbh as he hadn’t expected to wake up from the surgery and never thought he would live this long anyway having spent decades breathing in toxic fumes, only having one kidney and being told the quadruple heart bypass he had in his mid-50s would only give him another 10-15 years. He’s more concerned with getting a tv organised so he doesn’t miss the rugby league cup final tomorrow.

  17. Hope he gets to see many more Rugby League Cup Finals :upyeah:
