Iphone Air

  1. Strange! I guess Apple must have sorted it otherwise there would be a big story on the news.

  2. It is there if you look for it ( a bit late for me !)

For me the issue was that it did not work - circular madness being asked to complete a task that was impossible to complete. Impossible, not because I had no driving licence to photograph as proof of age. But impossible because the the technology was not capable of completing the task - 100% useless - like trying to fill a bucket with no bottom to it - useless.

And at the update stage there was no mention of this massive requirement -just some crap about new emojis. Nothing about having to take a picture of your driving licence - which by the way is 100% guaranteed not to work.

  3. I found a few stories relating to this all dated around March '26. Allegedly the iphone issue was resolved by scanning the document instead of taking a pic or turning the iphone off and restarting? I suppose mine is OK as I've had itunes hence Apple ID for aeons. Though since the stories are a month plus old, I imagine Apple fixed the software.

  4. I think it is more than a few stories. The acceptable documents were not accepted. There were lots of other people who do not even have a Driving Licence or a Credit Card - so how were they supposed to work it if they do not even have either of the two documents that are acceptable ?

It affects both ends of the age group - younger generations (+18) do not necessarily have a credit card or a Driving Licence - same as older generations. Even if the system worked - which it doesn't - then how can you verify your age if you do not even possess a Driving Licence or a Credit Card as required ?

  5. Apple iphones are 51.3% of the market. If the problem was widespread or unresolved, I think it would have made the news?

  6. My understanding is that this requirement is the result of a UK Law specifically (so does not apply in France etc). People have experienced all sorts of issues, not able to make calls if someone not already in contacts list - random things. The choice of acceptable documents - Credit Card & Driving Licence - really !

Anyway, there is a lot of (UK) noise on internet about it. If you live in Brazil you probably could not give a damn - so the discussions are UK centric because it is the result of a UK law.

I had an iPhone 16 Pro Max (1TB) until this started - I sold it and moved on. I did not do that on the basis of nothing. Still upset about it.

So over to you - I am not going through all this again, it upset me enough at the time. I might come back to iPhone again in a year.

  7. Mattie 52 million people own a smartphone in the UK and 53% of them are Apple iphone users. That means that upwards to 26 million people are -or were- affected. Given that some perhaps never update their software et etc its still bound to be at least 10 million people.

There is no mention of this being a problem in the UK news AFAIK, and when I searched for it all articles were dated in March. If it were on going and widespread, it would have hammered sales of iphones in the UK. The issue must have been solved surely?

I appreciate it was a major inconvenience to you and perhaps I would have also sold my iphone had I experienced the same issues. Though not registering your age would have meant you phone worked normally without access to age restricted sites. I don't really use my phone to watch Bonnie Blue that much, so maybe not.

    Have a great day!

  8. Have a great day indeed - the sun is still shining - the TT is on, Mugello GP and I have some new Metzelers to go on the bike.

This is not a conspiracy theory ;)

  9. Sounds like apple have addressed an issue that other manufacturers didn’t want to. The problems with children and smart phones that has been known about but ignored for years.
Will create a bigger market share for apple as first smartphone for most youngsters will be apple if the parents consider this.

  10. I am this close || from chucking the iPhone Air in the bin:scream::scream::scream: Utter shite! I trued to add a senior railcard to my Trainline account. I hate Trainline but I understand that it works on Spanishy Trains.

This rigmarole of adding a senior railcard to the Trainline App involves taking a picture of yourself and paying for which I was going to use Paypal. First the picture: using the camera to take a selfie is the verry essence of difficult. The camera may be of good quality but it is an absolute bastid to use. Then Paypal: although the conversion app they provide to go from Android to IOS claims to work - it doesn't. Very Apple. You just get the icon with nothing behind. Adding a credit card was 100% bastid as the keys are odd. Maybe it is just too small. I gave up and paid with a credit card by putting in the number. It still complained, but at least it told you WHY it was complaining and what it was complaining about. PAYPAL just kept you guessing!

I have to take it with me now as it runs off an eSIM and there isn't time to get a normal SIM with my number.

If it doesn't shine in Spain, I am going back to Android. It is miles better. The advantage of having a very slim phone do not outway the disadvantages of being sent to Apple land. Not by a long chalk!

It may be small and light but already I find myself leaving it at home because it is spoiling my life and making me angry. Sometimes, on apps that involve money - Paypal, banking and savings, you get white screens with that little whirly thing going for eternity, The fix is to turn off the phone. Leaave it to simmer for a while and then try again later - much later.

  11. You do know that you can walk into any Apple Store and get help with setting things up. Write a list and take anything you think you might need.

  12. I usually flush shite down the loo!

Anyway, I am taking it to Spain, where in a different country I fully expect it to go doowahly. I am also taking an Android tablet for any financial stuff, if I need to do anything.

I have to take some blame on this. I was fascinated by the thinness of the phone and thought that I would cope with smaller everything, but the "keyboard" it itself. I can't. so I get angry and then to make me angier still, it has started "saving" passwords and that is wrong. No matter the app, or website, I mostly use the same email address to sign in - mine and I realise that is a controversial move in Apple Land! Bizarre? Stupid? Idiotic? Apple think so. It tries to "help" by putting in the wrong password everywhere. Utter pants! I never asked for this shite!

    CHANGE OF SUBJECT

My Kobo eReader went nuts and "forgot" all my books. Kobo have been particular unhelpful and so I am done with them. The Amazon Kindle looks like an alternative. Anyone got one? What's it like? Y'know just for that, what seems to be, highly controversial des desire to just read a book!

  13. Read the books on your tablet of even you phone.

  14. Are you talking Kindle books? If I can do it on my tablet running Android (the Amazon app works fine on it) thst eould be good. I can try it in Spain!

  15. Log on to the app store and download the Amazon Kindle app. Start reading books & magazines.

  16. Given up with Apple.

I have to take my iPhone with me to Spain as my number is on it. I remember know why I despise Apple. I just found an iPad that I bought a while ago. It just will not connect to my home network, yet every other device in the World finds it and connects once I put in the password. This pile of shite is the only device in the World that can't find my network. So I try a factory reset. No can do. It will go off in an odyssey for 15 minutes and ask me to turn off WiFi. Then, after another odyssey, it asks to turn ON WiFi. Then repeat forever. Utter shite. When I get back from Spain, everything Apple goes in the bin.

  17. I think you need a visit to the apple shop

  18. You mean a coffee shop!

cam & Dursley is my local station, I can never check the trains there. No WiFi, no signal or anything. This phone is no different, Sitting next to the in the shelter is somebody on an iPhone with O2 just like me, but checking trains and browsing on the internet just fine. It’s me! I am doomed!

I just have to accept that an invisible cloak of airwave impenetrability follows me everywhere. It will work fine in an Apple Store in the hands of someone else.

when I get home - it won’t. A case of different day, same old shit.

As I was waiting for my iPad to not reset, I picked up my old Samsung to check something. The SIM no longer works, but it reminded me of the superiority of Google Android. When I get back towards the end of the month, I expect that I’ll go back to Android.

i press ‘post reply’ and nothing happens.

    Given up, Utterly shite!
