Moving the bike in the back garden today, getting ready for a ride. I was manoeuvring the bike (not sitting on it). I leant it over so that the sidestand took the weight and had already walked off the other way when I heard a thud. That’s when I looked back and realised that the stand wasn’t down and the bike had fallen straight on its side.The left hand side handlebar took all the weight and has snapped clean off, as well as the clutch lever which has snapped the end off also. Other than that no damage done but far from an ideal start to this evenings ride!
Mate, that's not great but could have been so much worse. Surprised the bar snapped, but I suppose much better to take all the force in one replaceable item, than it bend and in turn cause something else to bend.
I’ll have a proper look tonight when I get home. Initial quick inspection looked like just the handlebar and clutch lever. I was a lovely evening so was more keen to just get out for a ride so grabbed the Husky and headed out! Fingers crossed I don’t find anymore damage when I have a proper look!
I feel your pain, i dropped mine Thursday evening moving the bike after getting fuel , it did put a small dent in the tank but hopefully can be removed ,apart from that i got off lightly ,
did it roll off the stand, could it have been prevented if left in gear or was it just a random unavoidable nasty?
Ah, we've all done it. Good that it was just the clip in and clutch lever. Maybe take the opportunity to fit some new MC's or some new levers? Silver lining and all that
That is bad news. We have all done it. Last time I did the bike fell on me, so no worries, minor scuffs.
Same, the mts pulled me down like a sack of shit, pinning my left leg under it. Just as I pulled over a group I was leading... I felt like a right plum.
We’ve all been there. I wheeled my KTM 790 out of the garage a few years ago. It was brand new, I put my helmet on the mirror as I wheeled the bike out of the garage. As the helmet fell, I tried to catch it, but the bike got away from me. Felt like a right knob, but the bike was fine.
I've dropped 3 of mine so I sympathise. Lucky escape for you if it's not panels or paint Why do they make the side stands suicidal?
I think the side stand got caught on something as I moved it and flipped up without me realising, it was the other side to where I was holding the bike. My mistake was then that I ‘assumed’ it was still down. I won’t be doing that again!
Having owned a 996 with the original suicide side stand in the late 90’s, I don’t move any of my Ducatis around the garage unless I’m positioned on the side stand side. Andy
I did almost the exact same thing with my little Honda, side stand was down and while wheeling it backwards to the shed the side stand caught on something and the bike went away from me, couldn't hold it. Bit of damage but more angry with myself. So, so careful these days. I guess we all learn in our different ways and just hope that the outcomes are not too disastrous.
Ah yes, the suicide side stand, my 748's had this, I dropped my yellow one the first day because of it... Scuffed the otherwise perfect panels. Probably the fastest lesson I've ever learnt Move the bike from the sidestand side.
