I was reading the other day how the subprime lending market in the auto industry in the USA is growing out of control and delinquency is rising quickly. Wait for the inevitable crash in the motor industry and then China will pick up what manufacturers they want for very little cash.
Seems that things are moving quickly in the EV market - https://www.myanmaritv.com/news/chinas-catl-launches-batteries-1500km-range-six-minutes-full-charge
Not sure I like it but interesting all the same. Energy can only be converted, not destroyed. Basic physics. Such powerful batteries will need a shit ton of juice to fully charge, regardless of time taken. I’ll look forward to seeing the installation cost for a charging console for such batteries. Huge amperage = thick cables. And then there’s the safety aspect. I wouldn’t like to be around if one goes pop. Battery tech is certainly moving on apace. The Chinese are bossing it big style. Our global overlords clearly want us all in milk floats. And for that reason, and that reason alone- I shall resist!! Until the battle is over, by which time I’ll probably be dead. Phew…
Guess its about a 200kwh battery to charge in 6 minutes. That's a lot of input power. And heat. Guess they have solved the heat problem, but massive power supply at the charging point will be interesting. NE uk will be ok as its covered in f6cking solar factories (not farms)
Yep. EV owners will probably need a 3 phase electric welder type socket for those bad boys. And I think they’re about a million quid installed. Probably… Yeah, won’t look so smug then- cruising about in their “we care about the fkn planet” cars…
I can't profess to know anything about the technicalities of EV's and even regret buying my wife's Q3 Hybrid but we have just done 1200 miles in my CLS 350d shooting brake mostly at 85mph and returned an average of 42mpg. I think that is fantastic value for money.
Chinese car giant Chery wants to be ‘a citizen of the UK’ - https://www.independent.co.uk/cars/electric-vehicles/chery-cars-in-uk-b2968003.html
I confess to not knowing all the ins and outs of EV’s, but what I do know for sure is that they have certainly killed the style and feeling of the automotive industry. They have to be the most pig ugly monstrosities ever to grace our roads. I thought British Leyland back in the day had a fair go at it ,but that was nothing compared to what’s rolling around now.
I saw absolutely loads of them on the roads today. The white pearlescent paint looks good but apart from that, the vehicle and everything it represents is anathema to me (which probably explains why they’re so popular!).
Having had mine for 5 months now I can honestly say that it ranks as one of the best cars I’ve ever had (and I’ve had Mercs, BMW’s, Range Rover, Lexus etc). It’s very well kitted out, has lots of tech, very comfortable, quick (when you need it to be), handles well etc and is easy to drive. It’s also very economical. In the 5 months I’ve had it I’ve only had to fill the tank once and it’s still a quarter full (the petrol used was on a return trip to Glasgow back in April). It costs me IRO £1.65 each time I have to charge it up from around 20% back to 100%. I’ve done just over 3000 miles in it so by my calculations (charging a max of 4 times a week plus the £65 of petrol I put in back in February) it’s costing me approximately 6p a mile to run vs 20p a mile if it was a pure ICE car. Factor in that it’s half the cost of similar specced cars then it’s a no-brainer IMO. It may not be the best looking car out there but it doesn’t offend me……..and I’m sat inside it anyway. I’d definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a new car to take a look at one, and take it for a drive. You may just be surprised at how much you like it.
Fek. i have an ML350, so probably the same OM642 engine and if i get 27mpg out of it i consider it a good fill up day.
To be fair, there isn't a bad car on the roads these days and hasn't really been for a decade. All that you say is true and the Jaecoo does seem to be the "go to" car at the moment but the looks of a car is probably my number one consideration. Like you, I've had and still have all the cars you mentioned above but for all their faults (and there are many) the Germans produce stunning vehicles that I would struggle to walk away from at this stage in my life; being a petrol head also doesn't help much.
