748 520 40t Steel Sprocket

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Phil-748, May 30, 2026 at 10:32 AM.

  1. Try rear Talon sprockets. Would could possibly make a steel sprocket from scratch? It may, but may not be cheap.

  2. I had JT carrier on my 1098. It had a steel sprocket. They are interchangeable with Renthal
As for Talon, I have Talon on the MV they dont keep them in stock anymore. Cost me £90 for special order. So god knows what they would charge for a one off special if they would even do it.
There is a member onn here that has a business selling Ducati parts That's who I got my JT set up. I think his name on here is kev moose

  3. I have Renthal and quick release on mine, 4k miles, few track days , did zmx chain , still looks good

I have on the monster too, driven more often , was a daily for a few years

  4. I've mixed JT Carrier with Renthal Sprockets with no issues. Nice tight fit - and when the carrier is on and behind the hub you cannot see it anyway, so colour is irrelevant

  5. Sorted it now, Renthal carrier, JT Steel 14t front and JT Aluminum 40t rear, all for a 520 DID VX3 Chain 96 links.

Now onto the next issue I've found, looks like previously it's had a drive bush back out and 50% of the adjuster has been worn away. (Probably why it came with a spare carrier?)

It still works fine, but I will kept looking for another eccentric hub and replace it eventually.

    Part No's I can find for a 748 hub are 75620131A & Updated 75620171A?

I have seen ones that look similar 75630071A & 75630081A?

Does anyone know if it's only the first 2 or are any others complatable?

  6. It's gonna be peppy with 14 front and 40 back... sheesh. Ah just seen it's a 748. Not sure on final gearing ratio for that, so might not be so bad

  7. When one of mine failed and 'machined' the adjuster, I replaced them all but kept the old 'good' ones in case of emergency, as such I've still got the Ducati packaging - part no. 70090551A, listed as; "Cush drive damp S2R, S4R, MTS/07" so, none of the above but they fit fine.

I stand to be corrected but, I think they should all be the same, except maybe on 1098/1198 where they used a bigger hub with 6 rather than 5 cush rubbers, though I'm not sure if they are the same part?

I have seen aftermarket poly bushes rather than the Ducati rubber, don't know if they are any stronger? Though if you have the newer type Renthal carrier it should have the lip to stop them backing out, note some early Renthal carriers didn't have these - I had one fitted at the time mine popped a cush drive 200 miles from home and had to get the breakdown van/recovery of shame home - saved me a few quid on petrol mind, even if it it did take many hours.

  8. The Part numbers quoted are for the the eccentric hub, I have a spare carrier with bushes for now.

  9. Oops my mistake, I mis-read it as the cush drive numbers.

I fitted a new hub to mine but I don't know the part number, unless it's stamped on the old one that's still knocking about somewhere?

  10. I've located my old hub which is in the Ducati box the new one came in.

Edited to add, I removed an old label from the box and there is a part no. sticker; 16220083B "Hub 996-748B/01, 748RS/02, 916SP, 996-748B/00-01"

It fits my '98 916 but I think they're probably all the same?

There is also a part no. on the old hub if it helps, hard to be sure what it says as it's roughly cast in it, looks like: 18210081A if that helps.

To add, this came to me as a complete hub with all bearings etc. fitted so a simple swap.
