V4 Stm Dry Clutch Replacement Options

  1. I’ve just put another set of EVR plates in my V4 Multi RS, but at 15,000miles it is pretty warn, so looking at options for the next change:

    • Standard Ducati parts
    • EVR replacement
    • Ducabike replacement
    • (Wet clutch conversion)
Has anyone actually fitted an alternative manufacturers Dry Clutch kit and what was your experience like. EVR state they last longer, and Ducbike does a spring kit for road riders, but I can’t find anyone that has actually used anything other than Ducati standard parts?

  2. Standard parts, no fitment issues, expensive, limited life.
EVR parts, no fitment issues, not quite so expensive, still limited life.
Ducabike, the least said about that the better.
Revert to wet clutch, high initial cost, (potentially) much longer life.
My 1st generation 1200 Multistrada was mapped very early on in its life, looking at about 145/150 bhp at the rear wheel. It did over 50,000 miles on the original clutch before I sold it and as far as I know, it’s still going with the current owner. IMO, you need to ask Panigale V4 owners who have the wet clutch, how many miles they have done on the original wet clutch. Is it going to be cost effective ? If the bike is a keeper and does the mileage, probably take 45,000 miles to break even if a dealer does the conversion. If the bike is going to move on, probably not cost effective in the time. IMO, stick to EVR replacements. Andy

  3. Cheers Andy,

    I appreciate your advice.

I need to replace pretty much the dry whole clutch - knackered after 15,000 miles. Just touched it up, removed some rust and rubbed some bits down and put the EVR disks into a very tired basket. Need to get to Italy and back, so need another 3,000 miles out of it even though it feels very grabby.

A complete EVR clutch kit is looking like around £2k, and they do say they are harder wearing but don’t know anyone who has fitted one. I am going to see if there are any “deals” at WDW as WRS are right near where we are staying and they are a reseller.

Ducabike do some road biased springs and kits, and their kits are again just under £2K. I see you’re not a fan, any reason?

Standard dry clutch Ducati parts are £2.5k, but I am not sure I would use these again.

There are a lot of low mileage second hand Panigale/Streetfighter clutches going for under £500, and now I’ve had a play it looks pretty easy to fit. Not 100% certain, but not really a money thing, more about reliability as I have no plans to move it on.

Nothing against the dry clutch per se, but for me, the RS is a fantastic bike but held to ransom by the clutch. I shouldn’t be worried that such an expensive road bike won’t make a 3,000 mile road trip.

  4. I put an EVR wet clutch in my track Multistrada and have been very impressed by it, not sure if their wet offering fits the Stradle engine though. When Ducabike first appeared in the market, whether deserved or not, they got a reputation for selling cheap, imported copies of other manufacturer’s original parts. That is a while ago but I have no interest in clear plastic window clutch covers for wet clutches or steering damper brackets that attach to the petrol cap :D Andy
