Hi, I have a 2000 996S with 50mm carbon Termignonis and it's deafening! I am trying to figure out which are the stock pipes it came with. I know they're alloy. Did they have a big etched termignoni logo ? What was the part number / etchings ? Should they say E2 or E3 in the little etched box ? Are earlier 50mm stock pipes from the 90's more performant or are all 50mm stock pipes the same ? Is all the fitment compatible among alloy, and carbon / ti termis ? Thanks !!
Surely that's the whole point. Great sound for the rider deafening for anyone standing close by! My 50mm ones which came as standard (along with the chip) with the SPS in a box to replace the road legal ones are certainly very loud but I wouldn't describe them as deafening. I like them. Perhaps a 748 SPS engine is less boomy than a 996!? I very much doubt you'll find a decent or any kind of original standard 50mm silencers. Ebay is probably your best bet Pics of the original road ones back in the box that the race pipes came out of when it was delivered.
I assume that you ride with ear plugs. My 916 with same pipes is not deafening but just right. I don't keep my bike inside the house. You may be able to find some baffles to reduce the sound.
The standard alloy exhausts have a large etched/engraved termi logo on the S model. I'm not home till end of the week, but when I'm back I can check the codes I have on mine. (2001 996S)
Earlier ones are smaller, so louder - don't know if they make any difference to power but, if so I wouldn't think it would be noticeable. IIRC they changed to fatter exhausts for the later models to help with more stringent noise laws? They are also uglier, losing the sleeker lines of the 916 exhausts, despite them adding the 'Termignoni' logo to dress them up as mitigation. My 916 is fitted with 50mm carbon termis and whilst it's loud it's not objectionably so IMO but I also have the original 45mm pipes + link pipe and a set of the earlier, slimmer SP 50mm originals (no 'Termignoni' script, just ZDM, E markings) that I bought for peanuts many years ago (when nobody wanted them) primarily so that if I ever needed to fit them for MOT or similar, I wouldn't need to change the mid-pipe.

The heatshield on the 50mm Termis fastens to the side of the RH pipe rather than to the mid section and so is curved but there are variations on the hole centres (maybe changed when 998 introduced?) I bought a nice carbon shield that turned out to be the 'wrong' type and so didn't line up with the fixing holes but it was easier at the time to cut the bracket off the pipe and weld it back on in the new position, than get a new heatshield. I'm not sure how the heatshield fits on the standard 50mm as, although I've got a set, I've never fitted them and they've been sitting in a box for the last 20 years.
