Is it just me or has WSBK become quite boring now that Toprak has gone and Bulega seems to have lukewarm competition?
I think Toprak will come back to WSBK. He either isn't good enough or his style can't adapt to the prototype bikes in MotoGP. There seems to be a gulf between the 2 categories. I might be over simplifying a complex comparison.
This was always going to be a wasted year sat on that POS Yamaha but hes at least been regularly beating the other Yamaha riders which is pretty much all he can hope to achieve at this stage.
Its dreadful and the gap between ducati and the rest keeps getting wider not closer. Talk of Miller and Morbidelli going there next season but im not sure thats going to help make things any less predictable.
Ducati are due a third 0.5kg reduction in fuel mass flow shortly which must start having an effect soon. Both Bulega and Lecuona were serial under achievers, until they got on a Ducati, despite Dorna trying to neuter both the V2 and the V4R. Clearly there was a market for a race ready bike when Ducati launched the V4, so why didn’t the other manufacturers take the same opportunity ? Clearly paid dividends for Ducati, as the Panigale V4 is globally, the best selling superbike. Andy
Because the volume is there. Sure Ducati may sell the most large bikes but the volume is tiny. Mat Oxley was waying a week or so back that Honda sell more Fireblades to race teams and for track only use then they do to the road going public !!! Why should Kawasaki go out and build a new full on WSB race winning bike when they will only sell a few hundred of them. The car parks of WSB race meetings used to be packed full of CBR , ZXR, 916 and SRADs . Now its less bikes that are mainly adventure based.
