1299 Stuttering Post Tank Fill Up

  1. Good evening everyone, looking for some opinions and potential causes if anyone has seen/had this before.

On the Ducati day from Bridgewater via cafe and cheddar gorge I had filled up my tank at the nearest station (which was an Asda) they didn’t have super so I just out normal in.

on the ride out my Panigale R starting stuttering really badly and I was having to keep revving it to keep it running. It did keep dying but would re start but it did make corners really interesting. I decided that if I could just get to the cafe I would get recovery from there. I don’t remember seeing an engine light but can’t say for certain. However as we got nearer it cleared and ran fine so I was able to enjoy the remaining ride out. Hadn’t done it again since so thought it was just crap fuel.

however the other day after filling up again it did the same and this time there was definetly an engine light. So pulled over and trailered it home.

did some research I though MAP sensor so decided to have a look and wa a gonna do the voltage test. Definetly getting volts to the sensor but couldn’t test the output as I could not jimmy anything down the back of the wire to see. I had pulled the rear one out and noticed the wiring was kinked that I didn’t like. Tested it and left the rear one out so it was free.
While I was doing this my wife had found something about EVAP canister causing this post fill up so I ripped of the RH faining and to my dismay there was no canister…..bugger.

I don’t have a reader to and was wondering what people are using if there is one,

so restarted bike and fault has now cleared, took it out today for a quick rip and nothing untoward happened.

So just wondering what people feel about this and any ideas are welcome. just trying to exhaust avenues before she goes to Luigi Moto for service and fault finding.

  2. I'm not going to be much help, but the evap cannister is a common deletion mod, if it has been removed, there should be plugs on the nipples used by the cannister and a blank on its connector. I don't know the 1299 lineup, but I'm sure there are instructions online as I deleted the evap on my 1260 following some which highlighted the nipple and connector blanks.

I'm unsure if it's related, but might be worth checking as you mentioned the cannister has been removed.

Good luck, hopefully it's something silly and easy

  3. Mate had prob with V4SP2 and told by tech at ducati that brimming tank can cause bike to act like in limp mode. Worth a Google

  4. Cheers all, took bike apart today.

the evap canister removal has been done well. Two fuel tank vent pipes are connected and a bolt has been installed into the bled point and is nice and tight.

the map pipes seemed to be sufficiently connected and the rear MAP is now in its proper place.

bike is all back together and the fault is not showing on dash.

so will just have to wait and see on the next ride after fuelling up.

I will chat to Luigi moto about it next time I’m there.

  5. Might be completely unrelated but with a Monster S4r I stopped to fill up and the bike died shortly after. It was the fuel filter that is in the fuel tank. Lougi fixed it. Although this is a service item and the bike was serviced at Riders, the fuel filter had never been touched. So much for dealer servicing!

  6. Oh okay I shall discuss with them when I pop up. Intermittent faults are the worst

  7. I think the problem with overfilling the tank is that the evap system gets flooded giving the oxygen sensor hysterics.
Saying that I fill my streetfighter to the brim everytime due to the tiny tank and haven't had any problems

  8. Yeah I always fill to roughly the same point but the last few times it’s been doing this… proper frustrating as I’ve had her 2 years now.
Gonna try and pop out again this week and see what happens and if nothing maybe fill her up again…
I have no EVAP canister so I don’t understand what could cause it.

  9. Breather tubes to the tank aren't blocked are they?
