I've been having an issue with a random loss of power which is signalled by the rev limiter chevrons flashing red on the TFT display, and a red flashing band around the rev counter. Opening the throttle will provide some revs which sound subdued and staggered, like the bike is going to cut out, and doing so transfers no power (zero) to the bike to move off. Repeatedly trying to open the throttle will just activate the same warning lights again. The ignition will either have to be turned off and back on again to reset, or the bike will need to wait a few minutes with the engine running before power returns on opening the throttle, and the warning lights do not activate. Typically happens when coming towards a stop at the end of a road/roundabout, junction etc. The bike is a 2023 937cc model, it is the SP version. Had the full Termi race system fitted which removes the cat and is then reprogrammed with the Ducati Racing Evo programme, which was done when the bike was registered as new at the Ducati dealership it was purchased from. Other than that its never had any further flashes, tuning, dyno work done. Its never had any other mechanical, electrical or engine modifications either. The bike has been kept up to date with servicing. It is an intermittent problem and can occur at any time, regardless of either sport, road or wet mode, it doesn't matter if you shift manually or with the quick shifter, same issue will occur. I've tried taking the baffles out of the twin exhaust which has made no difference. I've tried cleaning some of the carbon buildup in the silencers, also no difference. I've had it back to the dealer who cant find a fault, and a local independent garage which has Ducati diagnostic tools, and neither could find any fault or make any suggestions. I've not been updated about any updates or recalls needed either. I had a hunch it could be some issue with a sensor reading engine emissions, or something of that nature. Possibly electrics, but nothing from the diagnostics suggested these. Super frustrating as the bike is light, nibble, and it rides & sounds fabulous. Wondered if anyone has come across same issue or might have any suggestions regarding the issue?
Sounds like it is related to the Throttle Position Sensor or the Accelerator Position Sensor. Given it's intermittent nature maybe a clean of the connector pins for each could solve it.
@James kay, I have been told, this is a known issue across several of the Ducati range that uses the 937cc engine which I’m surprised your dealer didn’t find in the knowledge base. Basically, the bike loses it’s memory and can’t tell what gear it is in, resulting in a loss of power and the rev counter lighting up as you describe. The recommended course of action is to carry out a gear reset followed by re learning the gears (as in telling the ECU, this is first, this is second, this is third etc.) Your independent might have the diagnostics to do this but they might not. You need to have the conversation. Andy
@Android853sp Thank you so much Andy, extremely helpful to me. That actual makes a lot of sense because you get the same rev limiter warning lights flashing on the top of the TFT screen, and the same sort of sensation with the bike as you do if you hit neutral by mistake, the only difference is you don't get the red band warning light flashing around the rev counter itself, and of course once you engage a gear you have power again. I'd even provided feedback directly to Ducati, and mentioned the issue to a few other Ducati dealerships, not just the dealer I ordered it from. However from my experience they love selling you the bikes (I've had several) but they are not so keen on admitting to or dealing with any issues that might come up. Whilst I've had some issues resolved under warranty with them over the years, they have left me out in the cold with this one! Zero interest, which prompted me to try and independent. I'll follow your suggestion.
@Derek Many thanks Derek, I don't think anyone has investigated when its been in for appraisal, so I'll def add it to the list of things to try.
