999 Timing Gear Broke.

  1. Hi everyone!! I would like to know if anyone has had a similar problem. During my last track day, I had an issue with my 998S, which has a 999 deep-sump engine. Suddenly, the bike failed. After that, I tried to start it, but it wouldn’t start and was backfiring.

I checked everything (pickup sensor, timing, injectors, etc.). Finally, I disassembled the stator cover and found three timing gear teeth (two from the primary gear and one from the pickup sensor gear). There are no other metal parts, just the teeth. The oil is perfectly clean, and the deep-sump oil filter is clean as well. Fortunately, the engine timing is still correct.

Has anyone seen something like this before? I don’t know what happened…

    Thanks in advance.
