Grabby First Gear Dry Slipper - What Are The Potential Causes?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by RC1, Jul 5, 2026 at 11:14 PM.

  1. from a standing start into first my clutch (sigma) is grabby once i hit certain rpms and there is a kangaroo style thing going on before i release the clutch lever fully. once on the move all is fine through the box up and down its just when i am pulling off from a standing start. any ideas?

ive had the bike about 4 years not a lot of use and i dont know when the clutch was last serviced so is that where i start? its been in the bike before i bought it so could be well over 4 years old

its a 749 but the sigma in it is used across a few models i believe

Can you estimate how many miles the clutch has done/many track days?
If it's "been around" a while (6k upwards and/or lower with hard use) then could be wear alone. If low mileage then a strip and good clean and greasing of balls could be all that's needed - could be a combination of both. I can't remember exact symptoms of a fractured spider spring, but i do remember that it's common on the earlier, slimmer spring and this could be a factor in the mix worth checking while it's stripped.

  3. its had light use in my time but no idea before that... i think strip down is first port of call and i can then report back
