Plymouth And Spain

  1. I've just received a new network cable (the other one kept unplugging itself. Plugged it in and all is good. Not using WiFi for getting in here!

  2. If you find the BSA difficult get a Yamaha N-Max 155 Techmax. I am proud to own one - they are a bit special and I just stumbled on this by chance. The Chinese have not managed to copy it, or it costs them too much.

Japanese engineering, modern electronics, variable valve timing, all kinds of tyres available - including Pirelli sports tyres.

I will ride to the coast now and get some chips, and eat them in the evening sunshine - 600 mile first service booked for Monday. ;)

  3. Madrid you’ll struggle to get a boat!

  4. Already booked the flight., Iberia, I think it was, from Heathrow.

  5. I don't know the bike but from your picture, that looks like the problem that I have with lots of bikes. The pillion seat raises up from the rider's seat and I struggle to lift my leg over it. The BSA attraction was that the saddle is flat - old school.

I'm happy with the bike and if I wasn't, as I said, that would be me done riding. If I couldn't get on with the BSA, I don't think that I could get on with anything.

  6. Yup, just looked it up. Wrong seat configuration and looks too heavy and unwieldy for me.

  7. Fair enough, I just thought to mention it in case the BSA does not work out - and with a decent scooter there was still the possibility to get out of the house and into the world on two wheels. But as you say if it doesn't work for you then at least you have had a look at it as an option.

Also to dispel the myth that maybe scooters are a homogeneous group of slow boring crap two wheelers - 'cause no they they aint ;)

Ducati should make one with a proper engine....that would be a riot of a thing I place my order now :D

  9. I am very pleased for you, I was only trying to help.

Incidentally my new scoot will not be replacing the No.1 bike.

  10. Heaven forbid we should hijack a thread but FYI Ducati did, for a short while (1952-54) manufacture a scooter.

Although noted for several technological facets at the time eg 4 stroke, electric start, automatic hydraulic transmission, it couldn’t compete with Vespa and Lambretta on price and was dropped from production after just 2000 units.

The thought has often occurred to me when one looks at how many scooters are in existence these days across Europe that someone in Ducati must have put pen to paper by now and come up with a modern design (perhaps based around a detuned 250MX engine). I like you would be in the market for one. However, it seems Ducati’s philosophy when launching a new platform (eg the MX bikes) is to find a global motorsport championship in which to test it and showcase it thus leading to sales. Is there such a thing for scooters? I’d love to see one though.

  11. I DO appreciate the help.

I think that if I lived somewhere like Santander, I would seriously consider a scooter. It just goes with the lifestyle! I would probably dump having a car and just use taxis if I had to get stuff home, like shopping. And if Ducati were to come out with a scooter, I'd be tempted anyway!

  12. That is interesting - bike has a bit old school Lambretta look about it. What is needed is the bike - then get a couple of entertaining biker-buddies to ride a couple of them round the World - The long way round of course !;)

That will do it like it did for adventure bikes - scoots will be the next big thing ! Guaranteed :D
