So finally got round to trying out the Ducati Multistrada V4S today at my local dealership (I've had a 1200s and a 1260 PP in the past). They had a lovely looking 2024 plate Travel & Radar for sale at £17k online so I enquired and arranged a test ride. I was fully expecting to come back home with it today but for some reason I'm just not overly impressed. Not so much the bike itself (although it doesn't like low revs) but more the appearance of the bike. For £17k I was expecting it to look like new, previous owner had put some protective tape on it and some of the edges were coming away and there was a few to many rub marks on the frame and plastic bits for my liking. As fast (warp speed quick) and comfortable as the bike was, I just felt underwhelmed with the condition I think and also the chugging in low revs. I don't know, am I over thinking it???
No your not, its not the bike for you, the points you've mentioned would niggle you forever if you bought it, keep looking and the right one will catch your eye
My 2022 V4 PP has had a paint protection on from new, and has now done 16000 miles from new, the paint protection is barely visible with no lifting edges and the bike still looks brand new, no rub marks on the frame or anything, so that bike sounds like it’s had a tough life or neglectful previous owner, definitely right to give it a miss there is good clean examples out there if you keep looking

24 plate T & R at £17k, so that's a £7k drop in price over 2 years. I have a 24 plate with 18k on it and the only rubbing is the heel plate but I would be gutted if I only got £17k! The PPF can easily be replaced/removed. AS for the chugging, I came from a Z1000SX which would happily chug along at 30 in 6th - you get used to running the bike at higher revs. 6th feels more like an Overdrive on UK B roads. If you are running it at a lower gear/higher revs and it is still chugging, then that's not right.
It’s a used bike. But condition should be commensurate with mileage (which you didn’t mention) as will be price. Looks like you found out why it was 17k but it’s hard to have a view on it without the miles number of owners etc. they made and make a lot of multi’s and as great a bike as it is it’s certainly not depreciation proof. I bought well and sold ok vs the market at the respective times and it cost me 6k to own one for three years and 12k miles, excluding servicing etc.
I agree, if I was about to spend that much money on that kind of bike I wouldn’t settle for anything less than feeling brilliantly excited and enthusiastic about it.
