Favour! I'm picking up a 1198 in the next few weeks and can't wait. The seller is away for next 7 days so they can't get measurements. Would anyone be able to measure the width across the outermost points of the bars? Ideally: lever tip to lever tip / bar end to bar end - whichever is widest. The reason I ask is that I have to get the 1198 through a side passage at home. There are several pinch points of around 750 mm at the narrowest for a width of only 100 mm (a fence post), otherwise opens to around 950–1,000 mm. I'll be removing the mirrors/indicator assemblies anyway, but I'm trying to work out whether it'll squeeze through before I bring it home. London life necessitates keeping in brick built storage. My thinking is that I can't be the only person who has toiled with this challenge so very interested to hear alternative approaches. FYI: things have explored / tried: I can't remove the fence posts - not mine. The neighbour will not move them either, even if pay etc. LLMs have been useful sparring partners but no documented mirrorless measurement for 1198 - estimates in the region of 660- 680 mm. I know it will be a pain removing/fitting mirrors & indicators each time. I am considering bar end mirrors and flush after market indicators for the stock mirror fixture. Thanks in advance!
It's very easy to loosen the pinch bolts for the clipons and swing the bars right in to move the bike. Obviously this is not practical if you are riding it regularly. NExt widest point will be the front fairing or end of foot pegs. I can measure later
Just measured my 1198, it’s pretty much 700mm per the photo, albeit I’ve removed the aftermarket bar ends that were fitted and not installed standard ones yet, but should give you a good idea. a 750mm gap would be tight but just about do’able I’d say.
Useful/Dangerous to k ow about being able to adjust the clip ons backwards and reducing width. I occasionally toy with the idea of getting another 1098 as a restoration project and have ruled it out because my garden shed doors are just too narrow. Now it would appear possible!
If I successfully squeeze the 1198 up the passage I'll have earned an 1198 based forum name! Otherwise stuck with my original username/account from when I had a 1098s in 2012!
