Hi. Some help required please. My 900 SL hasn’t missed a beat in 18 months/ 6500 miles (ish) Went out the other day, after about 10-15 miles it started to die on me, like it was out of fuel, it did this twice. Pulled over, fiddled with wires and pulled the plug caps off, put it back together and rode home, it was fine. I’ve done about 180 miles since then, all ok. Go out on it today and after 40 odd miles it does the same. It doesn’t cut out all the time, if it does it re starts. Nursed it home, it would die on me every 2-3 miles. It feels fuel related, plugs look nice and brown (tan) Any ideas? Fuel pump failing? If it was electrical, i.e plugs or coils would it miss fire? Any help appreciated. I’m going on holiday Tuesday for 2 weeks so it’s not going anywhere. Thanks
The pipe out the top front of the tank to the little inline valve? I pulled that pipe off before the valve, don’t think it made a difference. Should the fuel pump constantly run? I don’t always hear it but the bike was running fine? Does the pump just fill up the float bowls then stop? Now the fuel is low in the tank I can hear the pump and fuel running/returning?
Pump runs constantly on mine (‘97 SS carburettor) when the ignition is on. This was the source of my issue although the blockage was in the metal pipe that is mounted on top of the tank before the pipe and one way valve.
Thanks, I’ll check that too. Think I’ll change the filter while I’m messing about with it. Are these just your normal plastic inline filters do you know? Thanks
If it’s the same as the SS, It’s a filter inside the tank. Pain as you need to nearly empty the tank, but not a difficult job.
