Does anybody know (from experience) of a Sold Secure Diamond-rated (angle-grinder resistant) D lock that will fit through the front wheel and over the front tyre on a V4 Rally? Measurements are pretty close on many of the options so actual knowledge would be hugely valuable. Thanks in advance... rbd
Thanks for that. Already have a good Tracker fitted. Not entirely sure how that stops the bike being taken in the first place though. I’m off on a 14 country tour where security (and tracker response) will likely be variable. hence the original question…
Hey-ho, It could be because I am a cynical old Cop but I tend to be more philosophical on these matters. If My bike's nicked its insured and unless you're someplace like the Gobi desert it's easy enough to get home; an embuggerance for sure, but nobody's dead. There are many and varied worse things to happen abroad. An accident is a much more likely event; make sure you have REALLY GOOD insurance with medical coverage with Medivac. I have heard some proper nightmare stories around that subject. If they want your bike they're going to take it, especially if they are Pro's, Nothing will prevent that. Certainly not a U-Lock. Bikes are portable, 2 guys, one transit and she's away in under a minute and there is fuck all a tracker or a lock is going to do to stop that. TBH I wouldn't even have bothered with a tracker on my Rally but the insurance company insisted, which is fair enough for a bike worth the thick end of £30k. Secure parking, good lighting and diligent obs are you best tools. Also, an old, tatty cover. What the shite-bags can't see won't tempt them or attract attention. I use a heavy duty chain in the garage, take something like that and secure it to something immovable. That will slow them down, but there is not much that will defeat a high power, battery grinder with a diamond cutting disc; they may claim that it will, but its just a claim... Dont know about a D lock but I have the Roadloc on my Rally, it is superb. It comes with a discount for members of this parish. I also use a Liteloc One as a bit of a visual deterrent
I’ve had a Roadlok before on a GS. Piece of crap IMHO. Unless all you do is ride smooth tarmac in dry weather they are forever getting jammed. If you’re luck the jam means you can’t set it. If you’re less fortunate it means you can’t unlock it. Happened to me multiple times. Took it off and threw it away. The trips I do that involve many miles of dirt, anybody has one fitted, I counsel them not to use it. Looks neat though../

ok, so i am a registered locksmith and can answer your query, there are many Diamond D locks that fall into this category. They are industry rated for insurance purposes and time given for destruction. They all conform to the minimal standards for insurance rated specifications. Price point is also a consideration between brands also. Some insurance companies still require Thatcham approved units, but this is not and industry recognised system in all cases. The most secure locks that i have seen are units constructed of polymer outer layers which result in cutting blades and discs being clogged , but inner steel being just as conventional hardened steel. You cannot stop a thief from stealing your bike, but mechanical lock systems can slow the process down .

Thanks for this info duke63. Claude had for me to the same place. The measurements mean it’s touch and go for the Rally because of the ridge round the inside centre of the rim. I also have Mitas Enduro Trail + tyres fitted, which won’t help. I’ve ordered the DX1000 from Sportsbikeshop and will report back when it arrives…
