Hi there, I went to go for a ride on my ST2 the other night and noticed a pile of oil coming off the engine/exhaust. Managed to get her home and took the fairing off tonight to find a missing plug/item on the engine. It is situated facing forwards just above the clutch on the left hand side of the bike. Looks like a 10 mm plug and I am guessing it is some sort of oil filler, probably way off? Can someone confirm that and give me the correct spec to replace. I will have a look on the road near the area but not sure I will find it? Many thanks guys, Ollie
Ollie, have a look at the parts book (should be a free download from somewhere). I cut this from the 01 ST2 parts book which I think shows your missing bit at number 27 and an alloy washer 26. For the MY01 bike part numbers are: Alloy washer 420.2.006.2A Screw 779.1.026.1A But best check for your MY BTW by the clutch I assume you mean the clutch slave cylinder (the clutch is usually on the RHS in front of the rear brake lever)
Many thanks Denzil, will hunt for parts disc, had a quick look at the side of the road but must have bounced into the verge - no sign!
Should be a blanking plug in there. My M900 has that hole 'sealed' but my 916 has a plug in it. Either way it should not be open as it is directly into the crankcase... Here's a pic of said 916 engine showing the plug to the right side...
Thanks for all your help guys, anyone know what the size and thread type is so I can get a replacement from my local bike shop? Obviously cant take the bike!
Thanks, thought of that but just could not find one! Will go and have another look now in the daylight and see if I can find something! Cheers
The hole is to allow access for measuring the gap between the timing gear and the crank sensor (should be 0.7mm)
Thanks for all your help, all sorted Glasgow Duc are sending me one now. Number has changed a few times as usual but all good, Cheers
