i want to send the system off for polishing, so ive removed the r.h side panel for an inspection. one of the nuts that holds the front header on looks pretty impossible to get a ring spanner on..any tips or advice on how to remove? Also what is the best procedure in general? ie, do i need to removed the rear first, support the centre with a jack etc etc..also do i have to remove the tail section panels to get to any nuts and bolts? Its a far cry from the 916...these bloody things have 13 or so screws to hold the side fairing on..ive been spoilt with dzus fasteners.. any help would be greatly appreciated..dont be afraid to treat me like a numpty..im not too mechanically gifted/tolerant.
No need to support. Remove cans, Remove valve and all springs. Then remove all pipe work. Unbolt headers and job done! Best to take off both side fairings and v-piece. Tail can stay on. You'll need a ground down ring spanner or crows foot wrench for one of the nuts on the rear cylinder.
thanks for the reply but can you say that again, but with some detail... its how to remove said cans/valve/sensors and so on... cheers
to be honest, i may well get someone else to do it, purely because i dont want to lose my temper...one thing that makes me go absolutely crazy is inaccessable nuts and botls, and seized/rounded nuts and bolts...ive had to walk away just now because my allen sheared due to the very last bellypan fairing bolts..fkn things..
yeah i'll give it best..its a piece of piss job i know, but the i also know how aggressive my temper is and its just not worth it, never mind if it start removing the pipe and i round a nut off or something...im just not going to risk losing my rag because i dont want to smash it up.
Do the math(s)... If i paid the licence i wouldnt have the money, but if i watched telly, i wouldnt have the time....
It is easy, but I too have a temper. Header nuts are pretty easy to round off as they're quite soft. Patience was pushed! Someone else to remove, 1hrs labour tops. If you still want to do it a full guide can be found in the workshop manual, link at the top of this section.
it makes me laugh, and i would put this in the 'who is more important the doctor or the dustman' category, You cant undo it yourself, its too complicated to work out, you get angry, probably havnt got the correct kit, but you have decided it will only take whoever you pay 1 hour tops! i want to complete a purchase of a bit of prpery and register it with the land registry simples just sign a couple of forms jobs a good un shouldnt take a solicitor an hour tops............yeah coocking right!
Have you got the workshop manual? If not drop me a PM and I can send it to you. Would put it on here but do not know how. Any one with instructions on how to ? Regards Steve
allways start at the back work your way forward , dont put cheep tools near your bike i.e allan, torex and ribe bits of highest quality, useing a 3/8 drive set wont brake jack shit, pre soak with lube and chill out.
Not at all. Did mine myself. Yes I got a bit wound up but one of the nuts is a right pain even with a crows foot wrench. Who you trying to have a pop at here. Me , who did his himself, or funky who'd rather pay someone to do it?
who gives a shit who he's havin a pop at. i did the 916 myself but access was much better. i also polished the system myself as ive mentioned in previous threads...there arent valves and sensors to worry about on those things either. ive just bought this bike for a fair few quid an i dont want to damage it, either through my own ineptitude or temper (probably the latter). if it takes me a hour of frustration and i remove it, but my blood is boiling for hours afterwards then i would rather do an hour of work in which im skilled, and earn the money to pay someone else do the job they're skilled at. i know how angry i get and to me, its not worth it, because i will be brooding for hours and hours and hours....and if i damage the bike, especially if its because ive lost my temper then i'll be even madder at myself..call it petulant or whatever, but i often have no recollection of events when im 'on one'...i even threw a spinning chop saw once...didnt even know i'd done it until the electrics went bang...i couldve taken my fkn hand off, but i had no warning that i was going to lose my temper...been like it since i was a kid and used to get into fights at school etc.
Polishing up exhausts in dirty dirty work and a pain in the ass plus fingers will get burnt and eyeballs clogged with black filth. Noses will get blocked. Exhausts will be dropped and there will be a general to-do of the unnecessary sort. I'm with funky. I did my 916 but if i ever need another set done I am sending the bastards off. My whole garage was coated in the shit.
