Hello, First ride out on my Monster Evo (2011, 4k miles) after getting it delivered from Hyside motorcycles in essex somewhere, and my first monster/ducati. The rear brake almost doesn't work and to get it to slightly engage I had to push the brake all the way down until my foot was almost vertical. I know rear brakes aren't particularly good, but this felt not like this. So, I was round my mates who runs a bike school and he bled the brake (pump it, release the valve, etc) and on the first few turns there was no fluid coming out. Eventually after more pumping we got fluid out and hopefully any air that was in and topped it up. The brake didn't travel as far down but it still felt very spongy. By the time I got home it was back to it's almost not working, foot vertical. It had it's last service (a full belt change job) last month and the shop said they'd do a full check on it before it left. What's the problem, or is this the way the rear brake is on these bikes cos at the minute I can't really do slow stops using it? Thanks for any help.
could this be the problem? Really soft rear brake pedal If it is, I'm just annoyed with Hyside motorcycles for failing to check my bike before sending it to me (i.e. lying to me that they did a full check) and telling me it had a FSH when it missed it's 12month service as I've just noticed on the service book. btw, would anyone know if this is something covered by the warranty as it's still under?
Yes, positioning the caliper so the nipple is at the top should cure your problem, my 996 had the same problem, had to bleed it that way.
I'm not going to touch it, is this a warranty thing or a 'wear and tear' not covered by warranty thing? if not what'll be the average price?
try clamping flexy hose if solid problem at calliper end. had a fault once when carrying out a P.D.I on a fiat scuddo turnd out to be faulty pads. brake pads where squishing
