Brands hatch 12/06

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by RVizela, Jun 4, 2012.

  1. I'm finally doing my full day track day :)

Went to Germany 2 years ago and did both nurburgring tracks, gp and old track but only few laps a a couple of 20 min sessions on gp track.
    Anyone doing this?

    Any advise?

    Cheers

  2. I'm down at the Brands Hatch GP on the 12th June this year as well , but I'm a little worried about failing the noise test which is 101db (nearly happened with standard cans at Snett earlier in the year when the bike came up at 103db on the first test ). Ive done Brands Indy several times on other bikes, but havnt taken the Ducati or done the GP. Im thinking about rolling down there some time this week and getting it noise tested. If it fails I'll take my ZX7 along on the 12th instead

Regarding advice. Fill up at the BP station near the track (you'll probably need to get fuel at lunch time as well). Stretch before you go on track. Paddock Hill bend puts alot of strain on the legs when everything bottoms out. Take it easy and build up slowly, its a trackday and not a race. Remember that the tyres need to warm up at the start of each session. Speaking of tyres, drop the pressures in the tyres a few PSI. I was running 30/30 on Rossos at Snett, which seemed to work pretty well. Drink lots of water and keep your energy up during the day. Mainly have fun :upyeah:

  4. I will be there.
My 749 57mm system was last tested at 107dB.....Oooer! Luckily I have some dB killers that were measured at 102dB last week on an evening session. Hopefully this can be further reduced with a bit more wadding stuffed in!
Had an off at Druids but bike now mended and tested today - cosmetically she's a mess but what the hell!

  5. Now that's what I'm not aiming for hahah hopefully I'll keep shinny side up ;-)I'll see you there too

  6. I wasn't aiming for that either!!

  7. I've got a black 1098s, but not the luxury of a trailer. Cant put a tow bar on my Type R :) :). If its not chucking it down tmrw, Im going to have a blast down to the circuit and see where I stand. If it looks like i'll fail or if its going to wet on the day, i'll bring my green and white Zx7r. I love Paddock Hill bend, its like the start of a roller coaster when the whole world just drops away :). Yes, rubber side down please :) I'll be running in the Inters and Im sure we'll run into each other - off the track of course :) :)

  8. Hahaah

I don't have a trailer , well my own, a mate does a lot of track days so I asked him to borrow it ;-)

I do have my fingers crossed for weather as I'm looking forward to it and it's my bday on the day .

    Only a week to go....

Oh and my car came with tow bar ;-) not that I was thinking in advance or anything

  9. Just had a quick blast to Brands Hatch (well I had the afternoon free) dodged pretty much all of the rain, watched a few bikes go around and got my bike noise tested. 98.5 :upyeah: on standard cans. Thats 5db less that I was measured at Snett. Happy days  Just hope it doesnt rain. If you want to know what I look like, Ive uploaded some photos from that Snett day. See you guys there for a coffee and a chat :upyeah:

  10. Looking at the forecast it looks like its going to grey with showers. Not total downpours like today thankfully, but the weather is a fickle beast. Im still not sure I'll bring the Ducati, im leaning towards the Zx7 at the moment. Choices choices

  11. I don't have a choice ;-) well not looking forward to it as much but just going to try and make the most out of it ;-)

Not as I planned my first track day but I'm sure will be good

  12. It was good to meet you both yesterday. Helped make the best of the terrible weather. Ricky, you're bike was awesome and it was great watching it buzz across the start finish line from the pits :upyeah:

  13. Despite our best hopes that the wet weather would miraculously turn into something akin to a summer's day...it lashed it down for 75% of the sessions!!
Once everybody realised that it wasn't going to let up and the wet was there to stay, I think it turned out to be a pretty good day overall.
Riding in the wet is different - sure it's slower but it can be, and was, still fun as it lets you practise smooth throttle and braking techniques. Mind you, I had full wets so at least I wasn't worried about having a major slide..

Great to meet you both (and the bloke with the 998)...next time let's hope it's dry!!

    Cheers,

  14. I agree, I enjoy the odd wet trackday as long as it's not bitterly cold. Loads of people don't go out so you have lots of room to play. Also, the limit is much wider so you get to have a few slides without as much drama as in the dry. :upyeah:

  15. Was a good day in the end. First 2 sessions where a bit dodgy as I was just in normal tyres, not wets. Like you said Ricky when everyone kind accepted that the rain was to stay everyone made the most of it.
I had a good day and learned a lot about riding in pissing down rain and a lot of stading water but especially the last session was really good as most of the stading water was gone so was able to push a bit harder.
Thats it got the bug now ;-)

    Cant wait for next one

Matt did you brave it out again in the end?

  16. I went out in the last session, did two laps, but had no confidence in my tyres as the bike was just moving all over the place, so I came back in. Shame really, but it was better than chucking £10k at the scenery :biggrin:. There will be other trackdays, some will be wet, but I think the big duke will have to stay at home when it rains, unless I get some full wets that is. More track time at the end of the month at Mallory and then Rockingham in August :upyeah:
