Front Paddock Stand

  1. these will do the job. bear in mind though you won't be able to use the steering lock while on one of these stands.

if you get a thru headstock stand you may be able to have the wheel off the ground and the steering locked. (though not useable with some Dukes)

TBH having the tyre on the ground for a short period of time in storage will make negligable difference. i had mine on rear stand only for 2 years - never moved it at all. when it came off the stand it went straight in the van and off to snetterton for 2 days!

  2. Thanks Steve, don't use the steering lock so that will be fine, the main reason is so I can have the wheel off the ground to turn it and clean properly

  3. I had one of these and could never get it to stay up, so i adjusted the ends, so that they could fit in the holes in the bottom of the forks.

Much more sturdy than these ones i found, although Al has a through frame stand that is solid and very easy to make, drop him a PM also there is a thread somewhere with a pic.

  4. i've never had a problem with these stands....been using them for 20+ years.

there is a right way to use these stands - and as i found out from a relatively new to biking mate - a wrong way to use these stands.

1 of the bars sits under the fork leg and the other behind it.

  5. Another advantage is that you can remove the forks if required and it's easier to fit the wheel as the forks are unloaded and line up easier. :upyeah:

  6. I have a pair of these, they are fine and work well

  7. 2 step ladders, short scaffold pole and a couple of ratchet straps have worked very well for me over the years :)

  8. very elegant solution, however at under £20 for a front stand, the step ladders and scaffold pole might not end up being a budget solution after all.

  9. My stands.......maximum cost £10..........

  10. Anyone recommend a thru headstock front paddock stand for my 1993 900SS? Sorry to hijack someone elses thread!!

  11. Feel free to high jack, I've considered that option

  12. I got one like this. I put a bit of pipe lagging on it in a couple of places to protect mudguard etc when I'm geting it in position.
motorcycle front paddock stand | eBay
It came with 5 pins for various headstocks. SS one is 17mm. Bike is best on rear stand before using front stand.

  13. Perfect thanks I'll get one of those and start taking the front of the bike to bits. Keeps me out of trouble through the winter months!!

  14. But you won't be able to adjust or replace your headstock bearings though........

  15. Trolley jack and bit of wood strategically placed for headstock.

  16. Or a more stable, less risky method with a cross bar through the frame for less than £10......
