The service tool indicator spanner symbol on my 2009 M696 decided to illuminate on my return leg from Spa last month only 11 months and 2500 miles after the last belt service. The bike has now done 7500 miles. I'm wondering why it decided to come on as I believe that you can do 7500 miles between services and I'm nowhere near that. I'm assuming it's the fact that a 12 month service is due. I intend going to Silverstone for the MotoGP in a few weeks, a round trip of about 200 miles so I assume that I should be OK to complete that trip prior to getting it serviced as I dont have time to get it done prior to the trip.
I'd not be worrying about it if I were you, just get it fettled when you get time when you get back. I'm off to Silverstone on the Saturday afternoon, it's only my second foray to MotoGp, but if my adventure to Valencia is owt to go by it should be ok. Mind in Valencia, I was in a VIP box above the garages in pit lane, with free food and drink and paddock access for three days, it could be a tough act to follow....knowing what Silverstone's facilities are like!
The ECU is preprogrammed to alert you to the 7500 intervals, it won't illuminate until those milestones have been triggered regardless of whether the bike had a service at 7499 miles, it won't be an issue as you haven't done many miles but you will need to take it back to a dealer to turn off the warning.
