Tune Power Commander with Colourtune?

  1. My 900 SSie with pipes K+N and open airbox has always run really rough up to 4000 especially on a neutral throttle. The TPS, and injectors have been set up but its no better and Power Commander with correct factory map makes no difference. I'm a little bit suspect that the TPS isn't working 100% as it should but I don't want to spend £100+ to find out mines ok or have a custom map put on the PC111 while I've got a possible gremlin. So I'd like to find out if the mixtures rich or lean at the 3 stages on the PC box adjust it on the buttons. Has any used a colourtune to do something like this?

    Cheers Keith.

  2. Well I do not know were to start really but here goes. You say that it runs really rough with the map that you have fitted, is this map relevant to the same engine that you run? ie- same camshaft lift/compression values/ injector sizing/ power?
If so then why do you think your TPS is faulty? A TPS is a rotary Potentiometer that has values set in OHMs regarding a value of 1.5 volts. Have you set the TPS at the relevant voltage at throttle closed and fully open? If not then this really is a starting point to determine whether or not it is faulty. Also have you checked to see if your fuel pressure is constant when demand on the fuel system is required, ie- when you rev to 4K RPM, this can manifest itself is several ways and the electrical system being one of them as if it cannot supply enough voltage to the fuel pump at low rpm then your whole system is going to be suspect so this needs checking too. tying to use a colurtune is a waste of time to really find the cause.

  3. The factory maps for the pc111 are not very good for the 900ss, I tried them and had the same issues you have, but eventually got my bike mapped properly and its been great.

  4. Thanks for replies. The reason I suspect the TPS is a couple of years ago Glen at Parkys in Colchester had 10 mins with the bike and thought the voltage went up in too bigger steps as throttle was opened as if the coil/wiper were worn. Alec at Ducati Proteam recently set the bike up and seemed to think all was well but I'm not sure as the problem is like tps out. The PC3 wasn't fitted to the bike when setup recently as Alecs not keen on them. The PC3 has the correct map with a bit of accelerator pump dialled in.

  5. If you want to pop by I'll check the TPS for you at no charge.
    Regards, Al.

  6. OK many thanks Al. Bike is sorned now. I'll contact you in Spring.

    Cheers, Keith.

  7. Why not remove the TPS now and get it tested by Al now, then that way you know it is good or bad???

  8. Is it not possible to reset the TPS using the power commander . Im sure I have done this in the past. By the way my 06 9R wouldn't start with the downloaded 9R map.

  9. Download maps are SHITE

  10. Is that why they are free perhaps?

  11. Bits of glass colourtune in your eye from a 9000rpm run wont be much fun either.

  12. Going to get the TPS checked then I'll look at the fueling. Next year . Didn't know colourtunes explode.

  13. They usually dont, but 9000 rpm all that heat, on a glass bung? these are meant for adjusting the idle at low pressure.
