In the garage tonite all ready to fit my new S/hand clamp, old one off in minutes  Fit the speedymoto one & the forks are sitting about 10/15 mm below the top of the clamp ??? Now lots of peeps drop the forks thru but ive not heard of it the other way round ? With the standard top yoke on, the top of the forks are flush with the yoke (Ohlins) is this correct ? I bought it in manchester in august & rode it back & its been parked in the garage ever since. So i cant say ive experienced slow steering etc .... because ive been jogging about on the 996. Thanks in advance for your answers ..... Cheers Paul
No measured it with digital caliper 00.6 mm difference. Does anyone know how many lines / rings should be showing above the top yoke on a standard from the factory 2008 1098s
Well unless you have changed something else there must be something wrong, either before or now. Surely the place to start is where it was
The Speedymoto top clamp is "gullwinged" to allow the bars to raise. When fitted, the top of the fork leg should be flush with just the silver fork cap standing proud. The stock yokes should have about 15mm of leg sticking thru.
This is what i mean with standard yoke & the speedymoto top clamp.I think the forks have been out before i bought the bike ? shouldnt the forks be sticking thru the yolk ?
yes, have been dropped in the yokes prior to your purchase. Reset to standard then put the new top yoke on. Nelly gives good advice
Your forks are defo not on stock settings. When fitted, the speedymoto yoke should be exactly as the picture 2242 has posted. Also, the steerer cap you have isn't stock. It's sitting proud above the yoke, but should be flush.... It's not a OEM part but possibly an aftermarket part for a different model?
Is this an 848? Are the forks from a 1098 and someone managed to use the wrong stem or something? Could that be a reason? As I've not seen one with the stem nut not flush on a std yoke
If you've had the bike jacked up while doing the work, check the bottom yoke, make sure it is up tight to the bottom of the headstock, just in case the front end has dropped slightly while you've been working on the top yoke
I had this top clamp on my 1098S. Just loosen the fork pinch bolts, (with the bike supported first!!), then raise the forks up and re-tighten the bottom yoke pinch bolts then the top ones (torque appropriately). PS Your steering stem nut is NOT original and if it sits that proud then there is something wrong. Suggest you source a stock one. The fork tops should be just proud of the top surface of your triple clamp. You will also find the clip-ons will have to be raised to sit up against the underside of your triple clamp, as it is gullwing in profile, designed that way to effectively raise the bars. Note: check clearances with your brake and clutch fluid reservoirs with the fairing screen carefully afterwards, from lock to lock.
Is the stem nut not a version to take the ball mount for sat-nav etc, as it looks like it has threads in the centre. brian.
There seems to be quite a gap under the speedymoto one in your picture . Are you sure you had it pushed all the way down. If the forks are at the correct height for the original top yoke then they should be right for the speedymoto one too .
