Fricken decals!!

  1. Who the F lacquers decals on a track fairing?! Especially when they are relentless, with all that fancy writing...

Quick spraying quuestion. I assumes I just coarse sand and then wet n dry and paint basecoat over? Its f'glass fairing

  2. I use a Dremel and clean out the area of the decal and then build it up with primer and then rub the whole panel down. You have to be careful of sinkage if you want to make it look half decent.

  3. Given the amount of effort it's gonna take to clean it up after you've removed the decal, I'd be looking to China for replacements...

  4. Does it matter if it's a track fairing? You'll only bin the fucker anyway

  5. Subtlety patience dexterity adaptation improvisation …………….

  6. Even Pete 1950 would have been proud if he had written that post !

  7. He would have added

    • antidisestablishmentarianism
    • floccinaucinihilipilification and
    • pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

    Just for good measure :upyeah:

  8. bless you, that's a nasty sneeze you have there. Have you wiped the screen clean now?

  9. Anyway, isn't the third one "pneumo......". merely a technical term for a boob job?

  10. Yep its only track so some elbow grease over the xmas period and a couple of tins of primer cheaper than replacing what is a perfectly decent and repairable fairing. It needs to look good at 10 paces and in pictures...and yes it will get crashed anyway !!

could be arsed with the heatgun Cranker, faff....but will likely have to use to try and get whats left off

just got to decide what colours to go with now...thinking of buying a small compressor and spray gun as I seem to do a lot of painting when I race

  11.

  12. Hit the decals with some heavy duty aluminium oxide paper (decorators' sandpaper, buy it on the roll) and fill the scratches with knifing putty and spray over, that'll be the quickest way round it.

  13. you can buy a rubber wheel to put on yer drill to remove the decals very quick, the body shop dudes use them. i have one in my box.

  14. Easier to use on a disc cutter than a battery drill. Sod all control on a drill, far easier just to put a wad of it in your hand and start rubbing.

  15. All afternoon in the garage. Combination of 120 grit wet/dry, elbow grease, heat gun, white spirit and a belt sander have mostly sorted it. Still a little proud in places but a final hand sand should see enough out for a dusting of primer and see how it settles.

roll on a few more deg so I can get the cans out...

  16. Brad, put 'em away, no-one wants to see those saggy old fellas:mad:

  17. its not something you apply an abrasive with its a kind of rubber wheel that removes decals without damaging the paint underneath. going on piss with a painter the night i will get the name of it.

  18. My mistake, sorry.

  19. They are known as 'toffee' wheels.
