Are all 4 spring screws nipped up? if they are first you need to start it up without cover and with engine idling and front brake on,see if you can get it into gear easily without a big 'clunk' or a lurch forward.
Yes Chris, all 4 nipped up,checked them!Ok 80 quid isn't so bad plus new springs with necks and bolts! Will start her up tomorrow and let you guys know! Cheers, you guys have been great! Peter
There's this one from the US about £65 delivered but you might have to pay import duties. DUCATI Inner Clutch Center Hub Ducati 748/916/996/998 # 19610012 B | eBay Or this one from the UK at just under £80. Ducati 996 996S 996SPS 996R Inner Clutch Hub | eBay
Even though you only need 4 spring posts on your clutch hub (drum) you might be right to replace it :- Still need to see inner face of cover but judging by your last pictures it does look as though at least one more spring retainer cap has been clouted which might mean corresponding post is also bent and close to fracturing/detaching.
Hi guys! Took her out for a short spin just to see if she works good!Everything is normal just the clutch lever is easier to pull but that is! Anyway i ordered a new hub and caps with springs and gonna take her to a Ducati shop to get it fited before spring! Now i put her away for the winter! Thanks for your help guys, you have been great! Peter
If you're replacing the hub, fit a billet version without the steel inner hub & cush drives as it's much lighter, which will help the engine spin up better. Probably cheaper than an OEM part too...
Like this; Slingshot Racing : Ducati CNC Light Weight Racing Clutch Hub - $199.99 there are other manufacturers but this one is a good one and weighs less than half the original due to not having the inner hub & cush rubbers.
Thanks mate!Looks better than the OEM for sure!Oh well maybe change it in a few years ,but hope i won't need it to change again! Cheers, Peter
Hi guys! I have found out why my clutch hub post broke off! I have put a Billet open clutch cover and it was too small! The clutch springcups grinded it out and eventually one of them broke off! Here is the pictures to show what i mean! don't know how or why it happened because i have a nice big gap bettween the springcup and the cover!I could even put a wrench bettween them! I still had the rubber gasket but it got torned off where the cover was. Why are those spring extended out to the point where they grinded off my cover? Are they supposed to do it?I thought they compress when the clutch lever is applied and the pressure plate is pushed out! Here is the gap on the bottom,so my question is how far those springs are coming out? Thanks,
Operate the clutch while watching it, see if you get lateral movement, if so you have a problem, clutch hub nut or something?
As NZDave says, the spring caps should not move out if they do I can only think the hub nut is loose. Operate the clutch and have a close look. Could that damage have been done when the other spring post snapped and made its bid for freedom ???? Steve
