Hi fellas! Have a friend who wants to change, and probably already did,his monster 600 cam belt! All the guys i know who owns ducatis says he is doing sacrilege not to take his bike to a shop! I'm sure it came up here before so i'm sorry if i ask this but could you guys give your thought on it? Has anyone done it and if so how and with what method? Thank you, Peter
Like everything else ... its a piece of cake if you know how. Basically , remove spark plugs to ease turning the motor . remove belt covers and turn engine until timing marks line up , slacken tensioners and remove belts , fit new making sure timing marks still line up and re-tension the belts , refit plugs and belt covers . The timing IS critical , get it wrong and you will bend valves , but on the other hand its real easy to get right. Try googling it as there are heaps of vids showing how these sorts of things are done:smile:
Make sure you were given the correct cambelts as the earlier (93-97) 600's had square tooth profiles. The number you want is 73710021A for 2000.
Thanks guys, He swaped it and of course he has the wrong belt!He has a quare tooth profile ones, says it's still working but going to change it for the "right" one just to be sure!
