999 crankcase alternatives

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by xb12r, Feb 2, 2014.

  1. Hello everybody,

Does anybody know which other ducati carnkcases can be use on a 999 model. I bougth instead of mine a 999 crankcase but maybe for other persons in the future it can be a good information. I dint had a clue regarding this that was the reason why i searched only 999 cases butfor example i saw 749, 1098,996 cases for much cheaper like 99 cases and i think the 749 and the 1098 should be ok but i was not sure. So if anybody have a clue please share it whit us.
    Many thanks!

  2. what do you want to do….

its all to do with cylinder stud spacings plus desmoquattro, testastretta or evo….

for a 999 you can use 749 998 999 998RS 999RS, shallow sump / deep sump sand cast or the cheaper alternative i believe the 999R 104mm bore has a different stud spacing although you can use the later 998RS or 999RS which tbh arnt any different to the original 999R ones just less bits drilled out.

  3. heres a picture of my original 999R crankcase, and number 005 F02 crankcase that i changed to………even the part numbers were the same...

  4. Yeah,

thats ok that the R crankcases can be used but waht about for example the 1098 cases? I little bit suprised that the 749 cses are ok as well. The reason why i not bought 749 cases for a 150euro cheaper because i tought that mine bigger pistons on the 749 caes will not fit on the bottom, i hope you understand what i mean :)

  5. I understand. You can fit 749 and 999 barrels to a 749, only the gasket and the coolant holes need a bit of filing.

  6. the 749R had a deep sump but didn't have the sand cast cases…………..it had mickey mouse lookelikeys……..i understand that race teams swapped to the sand cast ones as they are infinitely better and even painted over them to look like the originals for the purpose of homologation..

  7. I just find my mail when i searched for a carnkcase for my 04 999 and i contacted the guy from Italy and see what he answered for me :
Please double check if your 999 is the "coppabassa" version as for the carters I'm selling (then the "S" version or the normal version but from 2005 - 140 CV), as the previous version had different carters!!

  8. For what I know:
998R 999R or 999RS have sandcasted cases with wider studs spacing for 104mm bore.
996R and 998S and 998RS have sandcasted cases with standard (999/749) stud spacing for 100mm bore.
standard 999 and 749 have shallow sump cases and are the same. Then you have the later type 999 and all 999S type cases which have deep sump for 100mm bore. also the 749R has deep sump but is little different for mounting of the 57mm RS exhausts.
But also fits 100mm bore cilinders. don't know if the 998R 999r 999RS 104mm bore engine are interchangeble with the 1098 104mm bore engines.

  9. If i would buy another crankcase then i will buy the deepsump from 999s i think the cilynder and te other parts whould fit in.The bearings are the same everywhere and the deepsump as i heard many times here in the forum much better like the previus cases.
I also bought another crankcase but the same like i had before the early models but now i am a bit unhappy that i didnt bought a deepsump and sandcast cases.

  10. i have an set of 998RS 100mm bore sandcasted deep sump cases. Pm me with an offer if you are interested.

  11. E998rs and early 998rs are the same cases as 996r and 998r. Some 998S cases were sandcast too. Later 999rs had a wider bore and a wider stud spacing and will not fit.

749 and 999 road cases will also fit.

  12. one of the ways to tell what you have is the aperture at the back where the swing arm spindle goes through……998RS stuff is round whereas the 999RS stuff has an oval…..for the adjustable swing arm positiion

in simple terms the stud spacing is 100mm or 104mm bore barrels…...

of course with 104mm barrels you can go 1099cc……….

  13. The only cases with an oval hole are the RS cases all the others have a single hole. Even the Rs have a single hole. The oval washer on the 9 frame is for show only .
