Hey guys, as my idea of getting a magnesium swing arm got blown up by being a ridiculous expensive idea!! I've now turned to looking at carbon fuel tanks not as expensive and should be quite straight forward to fit, been looking at the qb carbon one! Has anyone had a carbon tank on there bike is it a good idea?? Cheers.
Depends what constitutes a good idea. If you like the idea of saving a bit of weight from high on the bike then yes it's a good idea. If you don't like the idea of it splitting in a crash and turning a fixable bike into melted mess of metal and plastic then no, it's not a good idea. I've nearly finished repairing one that had been crashed, massive fracture, rear mount spit in half and both front mounts (corse type tank) ripped clean off. I think a mag swinger and links could still be found cheaper than a new carbon tank, and will make more of a difference. I've got a long swingarm and a carbon tank on my 996, if i had to pick one to keep it'd be the swingarm.
most carbon tanks are made pretty poorly and then have fuel proof resin poured in them. to be a proper racing cell then it'll have a puncture proof fuel bladder in them, but then the cost goes through the roof. I'd agree with 1037 on this one, that the swinger will make more of a difference to you. type Febur on italy fleabay, you might be pleasantly surprised on prices compared to some of the old scabbers I've see floating on ebay UK.
