Thinking of getting a monster for the wife. She`s not short but is sensitive to seat height. Would like a 796 but noticed 30mm greater height than the 696. Does anyone have practical comparative experience of the two bikes, both in this regard and more generally? Thanks.
Is she not happy with your current offering? You might try www.ukmonster.co.uk you may get more help there, they are a very knowledgeable bunch (excluding myself of course)
One of the Yank sites has a whole article about this. From memory they just use the small bikes rear shock mounting bracket and drop the forks to suit. That with a mildly cut down saddle should do it
My partner swapped her 696 for a 796 and finds the overall riding position better and more comfortable. I have not noticed it being any harder for her to get her feet down. I`ve ridden them both too, both very nice bikes but a little small for me.
I took 40mm out of my SS seat without too much trouble........Cost? Evo stick and a box of staples. AL
Thanks for the replies everyone. Seems there are some options on lowering the 79, though it may be a case of try it and see. Trouble is out here in the wilds of SW France dealers are scarce. Will let you know how things go.
It's a bit different on the newer bikes as shocks different I can lower old hooped bikes Firstly forget expensive lowering kits!! A lot of money for not much lowering. Forks a little bit through the yolk . Handle bar risers can also help being the bars back a bit. Michelin tyres have a lower profile. Seat have it scooped out and some high density foam put in thin but gives you padding. I've had to lower my bikes by at least 4 inches. Daytona ladystar boots are a blessing !!! Good safety record too. You can lower bikes .. But The best bet with your newer bike if seat scoop isn't enough is all the above ( tyres skip) and get a suspension specialist to sort your shock out. I have one bike professionally lowered and one very much DIY . The difference is staggering. I use MCT my other monster needs to go in soon But a specialist can Taylor make it to your wife's height for I would say under £300 ..best money I spent ever !!!
