looking for a replacement tank for my 04 Monster 1000. Just after some info on what other tanks I could use, and are some plastic rather than metal. Thanks in advance.
Straight fit is only monster afaik but you can fit others with some effort and removal of airbox. 916 tanks looks good
nice metal ones are hard to find, there are loads of dented ones about you could have filled&painted pretty sure most 1999-2004/5 old shape monsters with metal tanks are essentially the same but others on here or UKMOC might know for sure it 'should' be possible to put a plastic tanks (from later 620/695/s2r/s4r) but its not a straight swap. you would need the fuel pump assembly with the plastic tank and you will have to work out how the pressure/flow regulator would work. this is part of the pump assembly on the plastic tanks, on the metal tank bikes its lurking in the fuel lines around the throttle bodies usually. i doubt you could run both
Here's one for sale (S4R) http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f76/rad-style-project-donor-bike-advice-needed-15095/index2.html
a good steel one went for £63 this week so they do crop up from time to time at a bargain price. I know people have fitted a plastic tank in place of a steel one but they each have their problems - the plastic version can swell in some circumstances (can p.m. you if necessary) and the steel ones are prone to leaking at the hinge 'plate' due to fatigue cracking often annoyingly out of sight.
For plastic tank I am quite certain you can move fuel pump from metal tank. Saying that I will try it if I have to only. For now my plan is plastic tank with fuel pump and pressure regulator. Then another pressure regulator as originally fitted outside. It should work especially that currently I am running a metal tank from 620 with it's fuel pump and external pressure regulator on 695 that should have a plastic tank.
it was you i was u i was thinking of with this thread luca tilits, i have a couple of scratched plastic tanks and the complete fuel pump assembly for sale if you wanted to try this please feel free to PM me
what about this one? plastic or metal? looks the same as my 04 tank. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=321325080721
cant tell without seeing a pic of the underside of it but i think (but i have been wrong often) all tanks after 2004 were plastic, certainly s2r, 695, s4rT/s4rs were plastic, not sure offhand if the older (996 engine) s4r was plastic or metal didnt stevvoooo on UKMOC have and old metal tank for sale?
I'm taking my tank to a sprayer tomorrow for a price, I've managed to remove the fuel cap and lock, but how do you remove the outer peice? does it come out, need to get in the tank to disconnect the sender.
