Quickshifter 899

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ballbagracer, Feb 20, 2014.

  1. Anyone had any trouble with the quickshifter? I was out yesterday and kept getting a missed gear!! I tried to change lightly then tried a bit heavier a bit quicker a bit slower, every now and then a dodgy change!! is there any adjustment on these? Should I be telling the dealer?

  2. I don't know if ducati updated the quick shifter from the 848 corse or how you're using it but I know I have to be a) pretty positive especially from 5th to 6th and b) be on the power pretty hard for it to work best.

I'd discuss with the dealer as they should be happy to have a look and make sure the gear lever is adjusted properly.

  3. My only experience with the Quickshifter's is on the 1199, but tbh I have to say I was using it happily, then all of a sudden it was like I missed a gear, then it happened again and both time's it was because I had kinda accelerated-started to roll the throttle and short shifted in lower revs (sub 7k) and it really didn't like it. Does that sound similar?

it was fine when I was on more than 20% throttle but I did find it quite un-smooth at small 'cruising' RPM's which is kinda expected given the purpose of them (max revs, fast shifting).

It was still better than the Triumph Daytona ones.

  4. Yeah, this has happened to me on my 1199. When I first got the bike. I was gunning it down a long straight, went for gear change and the engine revved it's nuts of and gearbox clattered like hell, felt like it was stuck inbetween gears. I prodded the shifter a few times with the clutch in and it sorted itself out. It's only happened twice, I just put it down to new bike/inexperienced pilot syndrome. May be worth mentioning it to the dealer if it persists.

  5. I did have a few missed gear changes going from 5th to 6th on my 1199, but it seems fine now. I thought it could have been me being a bit too light with the gear change lever, it seems ok if you give it a good pull with your foot.
It only did it going from 5th to 6th thou.

  6. Yep. Load through the box is important.....it's for accelerating quickly rather than saving the left hand at cruising speed afterall.

  7. Yeah, Also, I have noticed that Ducati's always seem to have a longer throw on the gear lever than some other bikes. Coupled with bigger gaps between ratio's must make the Quickshifters job difficult.

I rode a mates GSXR750 the other week and it was like one of those CVT Car gearboxes, kept throwing gears and A) there was nearly no interuption in power even without a quickshifter and B) the revs seem to only drop about 500RPM! each change mental!

  8. my 1199 had a q/shifter update at first service and it was much better ,quicker change and smoother ,maybe the 899 needs one ask the dealer

  9. I've been having the same issue with mine, only 5th to 6th, thought it might be adjustment as I have fitted Rizoma rear sets

  10. Had loads of missed gears on my 1199 pretty much all when running in due to low revs, happens occasionally but rare if thrashing it

  11. I will keep an eye on it, could still be a week or three before it's first service? but I will be mentioning it.

  12. just been out on my 899, only 70 miles but it missed second to third after about 5 miles (revved then jumped in) which threw me a bit as I was on a bend and it was slightly moist (as were my pants after!) and then it missed 5-6 once after about 40 miles. I take it as its just all settling (only 380 miles on clock) but it is worse since the termis were fitted

booked it into a track day at Brands on 3rd of march so might pop there tomorrow and get it noise tested as I don't want to turn up on the day and be disappointed!

  13. let us know how you get on will you? Planning to run mine at Donington and it's a quiet day. You going to get it tested with and without those joke baffles.
    Cheers

  14. I hit neutral quite a lot when using the quickshifter on mine - is there a consensus that this is just due to the quickshifter being quite sensitive to low revs/throttle, or is there some adjustment that can be made?

  15. Never had a problem with the DQS, either on my old 848 EC SE or the 899.

  16. I'm wondering about this as I don't seem to able to get to grips with it. It'll be fine then I'll miss a gear for no apparent reason. I love using it as it makes a really cool sounding pop through the Termi's as you change gear but last time I used it was on a long straight which has a pub half way along it, just before I got there and after doing several cool sounding pops I missed a gear, of course the pub was packed and everyone was looking. I felt like a real c*nt.

  17. Mine tends to do it either 1 to 2 or 5 to 6, elsewhere it's fine.
Asked at the first service if there was a software revision like the 1199, was told no.
Would like to be corrected on that though!

  18. You're not meant to use the DQS between 1st and 2nd as far as I know.

  19. Yeah my understanding of quickshifters has always been that they are useful 2nd-6th only.

  20. I've had problems from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th too. Probably some are rider error, but at least one time I recall I was accelerating hard on an overtake, and probably shifted at 10.5k revs...

It's embarrassing, but also a pain in the arse because it feels like russian roulette using the quickshifter.

I'll mention it at the dealer on Friday when I take the bike in to get the ignition switch replaced (sticky button).
