Hi, Are these worthy upgrades for my 996 Bip? I ride mainly on the road and get to do a few track days a year but I don't get on track regularly. I was thinking of spending some money on the ol' girl after a full belt service for the summer and wondered if it was worth doing these mods for the stye of riding I do, or are there better options? 1st up :Avanti Race Parts - Ducati Parts and Accessories for Road and Race Motorcycles. Suspension will be set to my weight during the service. It rides fine at the moment but I've not had the bike for long so haven't pushed it on track, when I get a chance I'll see if the forks and shock need any bits servicing or replacing. Wheels I've not often looked at as they seem to be a very expensive upgrade, the two bits I've shown will be less than £400, wheels seem to be £thousands. Happy to be proved wrong And aren't wheels and big suspension work a bit much for predominantly road use?
buy some cheap corse copy rearsets for 60 quid or so on fleabay, forget the gb moto things. Get the suspension set up, decent brake pads and a radial mc.
Agreed, best mods I made were stage 1 fork overhaul at Kais who also sorted the standard rear shock...and I put PVM wheels on a whole host of other bling ad dons but the 2 above are worth the money alone
Gotta agree. Best mod is full suspension upgrade first. Lighter wheels will improve acceleration, handling and braking. The master cylinder will give an improvement you can feel, quite litteraly, straight away, but you may need a 90 degree adapter from the M/C to the original banjo bolt.
I have a set of Brembo radial master cylinders and they won't fit on my 748 as the switches get in the way, the brake side just doesn't quite clear by a fraction. There are two different handlebar tube variations, one for earlier models with the master cylinders on brackets that are top mounted and one for the later ones which are side mounted. You might want to check clearances before you think about buying them. Longer handlebars would work.
good point, my 996 was just a fraction out, so i ground the bleed nipple slightly and had to remove the pin on the handlebar which you would have to do anyway, you will probably need a banjo bolt brake light switch also, i did
I would go with suspension and wheels, maybe 848 wheels as they are supposed to be lighter? For the suspension, deffo a spring and oil set up for your weight.
