Abba Stand Fitting Kit for a 749

  1. Can anyone confirm for me that this is the right kit?

I just received one identical to the one pictured but I was expecting one with a male pin that goes into the swingarm bolt rather than 2 female cups.

I just offered it up to the bike and it fits but all the weight will be on the frame bolt recesses rather than the bolt so thought I would ask you guys.

Was expecting one more like this

If its the right one im going to be masking it up with tape to avoid scratches.

Seems weird as the nearside adapter only sits on the top of the bolt rather than around it and hence the weight will be on the frame recess.

    Hmm

  2. It looks like you just have the "default" kit there in the top photo. What model 749 is it? The earlier ones apart from the R had the same kit as the 748, which were similar, but slightly smaller diameter versions of the default ones so that they fitted snugly into the frame holes either side. If you have the earlier 749, with the round frame holes, then yes, it's the frame holes that take the weight. I greased mine to avoid wear on the inside hole faces.

The R, and also other later models with the oval frame hole should have a male fitment for the LHS, similar to the one you pictured, and either a smaller cylinder one to fit snugly over the RHS bolt, or a ring to fit into the default RHS fitting, to give the same result. I use that fitment on my 999 as well.

ABBA stands may have changed fitments over the years, so I may be out of date, but hope this helps

  3. Here's a pic of mine. Centre pair are the ones that come as standard. LH pair are the 748 ones (just a mm or two narrower) and the RH ones I use on the 999 - they fit inside the standard fitments.

  4. Thanks for the info - very useful.

I have a fitting kit for a 98 R1 which has a male pin like on the far right so I might see if that fits rather than scratch the frame.

If not, a bit of tape and grease on the adapter should sort it.

  5. I made an abba set for my 999 from sockets and a bit of allen key.

  6. Thing is, I wouldnt want to try one of these sky lifts as you wouldnt have any frame paint left....
