Clutch master cylinder question

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Pavey, Mar 9, 2014.

  1. Long story short my slave cylinder was leaking, so i swapped it over for an Oberon and all is well, no leak. However the bleed nipple within the reservoir sheared meaning i cannot bleed the clutch (at this moment in time) should i need to.

I'm not the most mechanically minded but am i right in thinking i'm ok riding the bike like this, all will be well unless the new slave leaks, then i'm up the creek?

What do i need to order to fix the problem, is it just a new clutch reservoir, and swap the whole thing over? To add to my woes the current reservoir does seem to have a very slow weep as the volume of fluid has gone down, and there is a small drip from around the switch, pure coincidence i presume.

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Bloody hell Nick , sheared it , to heavy with them big sausages of yours :

  3. Do you mean the 6mm one in the reservoir. If you do then that would not make the clutch slave leak .
The 6mm helps rid any air from the system but you can still bleed the conventional way , by loosing the nipple ,squeeze lever , tighten .
So if your clutch works now ,it should be fine .
Did it shear leaving the thread in the reservoir body ?

  4. Lol, yep. Over did it and it sheared. It is the 6mm one in the reservoir yes, and it's still on there, just showing so the hole is plugged.

If I do need to bleed it (from the slave), is there another way to refill it seeing as my 6mm within the master reservoir is sheared?

  5. Just pour fluid into reservoir , as normal.

  6. Right, I think I understand it now. ;) Thanks Pete.

  7. Nick see how you go with it , I do have a clutch master available .
Is there enough of the screw left to get some mole grips locked onto it to remove.

  8. From memory no, I'll have a check in the morning.

I may take you up on that master, as hopefully replacing it will cure the weep.
