Resetting service warning light

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Twin4me, Jul 4, 2012.

  1. This seems to be counter intuitive to me but perhaps their is a sensible reason...

    I got the bike serviced as they originally told me it needed doing at 7,000 miles, turns out it should have been 7,500, anyway I took it in at about 7,200 anyway.

    Service done, but the oil change warning countdown message still appears each time I switch on. The dealer told me they have to wait for this to finish and then they can reset it. They said that they can reset it to restart from 7,200 miles at that point, I just have to book the bike back in again!

    Am I missing something, is Ducati really that dumb, or are the dealers being plonkers?

  2. Funny that same with my 848, took it in for service slightly early than the correct miles not by that many thou. I have the service message appearing.
    The dealer said this cant be reset till the service mileage has been reached, you would think with todays technology it could be reset at any mileage, got to take mine back to get reset.
    Not a major issue more of inconvenience really.

  3. It's better to take the bike in just after the mileage point (7,500, 15,000, etc) for servicing, not just before it. When 7,500 rolls around on yours, Twin4Me, surely the dealer could just do the reset in a couple of minutes f.o.c. without "booking it in".

  4. It's an unfortunate reality that the dealer can't switch off the service light until the pre-programmed mileage has been reached. It's a good idea to not have anything done on the bike until this mileage has been done, to avoid having to revisit the dealer to have the light switched off once the specified mileage has been done. I have no knowledge about bikes other than my 749s , but it's certainly not a 2 minute job, as fairings have to be removed to gain access to enable the 'matheis' piece of equipment to be plugged in and the light switched off.

  5. If they hadn't told me it should be serviced at 7,000 miles then I would have done that (even though the brakes were shot to bits by then and I wanted to get everything done at the same time)

    It's true that they probably don't need to book it in, and I've got to get the RH switch replaced as well, it just strikes me as odd that they can 'correct' the last service to 7,200 miles but not just set it when the do the service?

  6. it was only a 5 minute job to get the reset done as they can clag up to the maintenance connector and reset using a laptop

  7. I had the same problem. Only took them a couple of minutes to reset once it had tripped over the 7500 mark. However the service schedule is 7500 or 1 year so while the bike is in warranty if you cover less that 7500 per year the it will be serviced before reaching 7500. I just had my second service and am now waiting for the light to service indicator to come on which will be about another month. I've had my MTS sine the end of May 2010. So I will have it reset when I have the belts done. Or maybe I'll just do the belts myself.

  8. Or you could just do the reset at home, if your doing your own work or the dealer did the service too soon.

  9. Give us a clue? How do you do the reset at home, I was led to believe that it can only be done at a dealer with their laptop.

  10. My guess would be that Anth is referring to free/cheap software you can load to a laptop (e.g. Ducatidiag) which with a diagnostic connector lead to connect to the bike's diagnostics port, you can do this yourself.........just not on the MTS12, Diaval, Panigale and any other Ducati's that use the latest Mitsubishi ECUs (DucatiDiag only supports Marelli ECU's - ducatidiag :: Connexion)
    There are options but at some considerable cost and with limitations (depending what else you want/need to do):
    :: RexXer ECU-Tuning ::
    REXXER - looks a good bit of kit and does have some limited diagnostic/service capabilities but primarily for loading/saving engine management maps

    Home :: TechnoResearch Inc
    VDST software from Technoresearch, low cost but limited use. They do also make some impressive hardware but it's aimed at the pro workshop judging by the prices. Mitsubishi ECU support is coming soon I'm told and a whole bunch of new features.....waiting on an update on this ;-)
