Hello I have a 999 2004 model and have had it for a couple of months. The previse owner would leave the battery on trickle charge. So I decided to change the battery , but after I ride the bike the next day or 2 the bike seem it will not start and show LOW BATTERY on dash ??? Does any way know what wrong or what I am doing wrong for that matter ??? Thanks
Common problem on older 749/999's Two things I would recommend 1. New Coil/Injector/Fuel Pump relay 2. Secondary earth lead Was covered in this thread http://ducatiforum.co.uk/forum/threads/749s-wont-start.12766/
Charge the battery and try again, you've either got a duff battery or its not charging. Your dashboard shows volts. Bottom RHS. Switched on should show 12ish, your lights will turn off after 30 secs then good 12V should show. Running 13.4-14V.
the 999 does need a good battery it may sound like its ok when its turning over but the bike needs a lot of juice to run all the electrics ,i fitted a"Motobat" battery the yellow ones as it has high amping and it always starts the bike
Thanks Guys , I fitted a new battery and it is a Motobatt - part number MBTX9U . When the bike is running it say 14v and if I turn on the lights it say 13.9v !!! The problem is if I leave the bike for a few days its says low battery ?? I will put another earth lead next week and see from there. thanks again
if you have a "Motobatt" battery you will needa Motobatt charger they are about £15 and they will keep your batttery tip top ,you dont want to use a acumate or a optimate as they will dry the battery out
Hello people , well here is my update. I fitted a thicker earth lead and I started it up on Saturday and went for a ride - battery said 12.8v before starting ( running 14v) - Sunday I started it up again and went on a ride , I stopped at 3 places for a drink with my mates and she started up every time ( In saying this not the first time , more like the second time) Today is Monday and no work so I tried to start her up again and she started , but I just saw a Low Battery flash on the dash !!!! So I am not 100% convinced it is solved ??? Any feed back would be very much appreciated. Thanks once again people for your help.
mine runs at 14v all the time ,and to honist i have never seen the low battery flash even with a very low battery , i must be missing somthing ?
