On the spec sheet the 749 is doing 43MPG and the 999 40MPG. I'm planning on doing a trip to Austria this Summer to see my parents on the bike so it's going to be at least 2 K miles. So every MPG counts
To be honest i would be more concerned about cruising speed, gearing and torque. On that basis a 999 should be a much easier, less revvy ride.
Buy an R tank , with this you get at least another 5 litres capacity . This does make a difference to fuel stops , if you are out with other 2 wheelers it usually means that your fuel lasts as long as theirs for fuel stops ect . Made all the difference for my triple 9 .
MPG = riding style whatever the books say or others it all depends how you ride it. Just keep track of your mileage and a few fill ups to calculate your average for your riding style.
Both RSV's I owned did 30MPG regardless of how they where ridden they just loved to drink petrol. (Both bikes had TB and Co2 set up correctly).
