Recently posted a misfire and have had the same fault again. Gonna try a new fuel pump relay but have heard that a secondary earth is a good idea. Any info on a how to would be greatly appreciated as beginning to loose faith in the brand.
I didn't see your first thread, but a secondary or beefed up earth can help the starter spin over a bit quicker.
Ah. It doesn't seem to be a starter problem. More a "catching" problem. Same symptoms as the broken fuel pump relay. Gonna change it first to see if it is the problem then I will know that something else is blowing it.
While your at it check the earth to the ecu . The ecu is bolted to plastic don't forget and if the earth wire is breaking down at any point to it you will get problems.
One of the bolts that holds the ecu also has an earth lead its quite prone to losing its connection. I think .
Make sure the wire or the terminals aren't breaking down . It may seem well connected but if the joint has gone dry it may not be earthing properly.
The penny drops! I think I know what's up. When I put all the wiring back after a recent oil cooler change there was a wire that could have been an earth. I'll check it as soon as. Thank you.
I recently added a secondary earth to my strada (as the original is crimped into the battery connector with the wiring loom so not easy to replace without the right tools). It does seem to catch on the first cycle of the solenoid start now instead of the 2nd or third. Eventually I'll replace the +ve wire to the starter and clean up the original earth as well. The wire was a fiver from halfrauds & I fitted it to the exposed starter motor bolt & cable tied it alongside the original earth wire.
The earth was attached where it was so I cleaned it up anyway and it started well but then went back to same problem.
did you make sure there wasnt a dry joint . Try a new earth cable from the ecu to the battery earth to check it. A smallish wire will do it . I have had a new fuel pump relay fail tho so it will be a trial to find your problem .
I have this secondary lead going to a bolt on the frame, where exactly is the starter motor bolt? Thanks.
I'm not sure m8. Gave up as taking me too long and just put her in the garage this morning to be worked on on Tuesday.
