What Are These And Why Bare?

  1. Hello,
Cleaning my bike (monster evo) I almost ripped these wires out. They're on the clutch and the front brake.

Any idea what they're for, I assume some kind of sensor? But my other question is why are they like this and why couldn't they have been in their sheafs for at least a little bit of protection, looks cheap and fragile to me.

  2. They arent bare.
The outer sheaf has moved back. Try and slide to suit and perhaps a dot of super glue to retain in place

They are resin sealed in the sensor.

  3. I know they're resin sealed but the sheafs won't go any further as the wires spread out from where they are shown bare.

  4. They are micro switches, the right is the brake light and left allows an engine start in gear with the clutch held in.

  5. I wouldnt worry.
Worry when you hear your big ends rattling haha :)

  6. I wouldn't worry about the outer sheaf, mine are exactly the same. I do agree they could have been made a little better!

  7. I might stick some electricians tape around them.

Good to know what they are though. Maybe that explains why my brother in law's older monster has to be put into neutral before he can start the bike (which resulted in him being shunted from behind at traffic lights when he stalled), i.e. those are not in older bikes :)
