999 Airbox Mod

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by salmore, Apr 24, 2014.

  1. Hi all,
looked through but could not find an answer..

on the 900ss i had a while ago, i put in freeflowing exhaust (ramus) and then i put in a K&N free flowing air filter. then I did a mod to the airbox where I basically cut off the top of it, which helped the sound + motor work much smoother.

Just curious if there is a similar mod to the airbox that is done for the 999?
i could not find any aftermarket open airboxes on ebay for 999, so not sure if it's just a case of putting in a set of DNA high flow airfilters or...?

    Thanks,

  2. I'm sorry, I must have misspoke, I was NOT looking for the titanium plated kind, made out of elephant tusks, signed by Rossi... just the regular plastic box with larger hole!

... you have to be kidding me on this price.
Alright let's take another route, for the 900SS there were ones you could buy, but most people just cut the top off for free and that worked just a well. anyone done anything like that to theirs? is it even worth it on a 999? I know on the 900SS it made quite a difference.

  3. The standard air box is good for 160bhp at the wheel. Tbh, unless you're pushing that limit, I'd leave it alone.

  4. As it's a pressurised airbox I think cutting it open would lose you power, the theory on the larger (€1500) airbox is it will flow more air/pressure which combined with a remap will make more power.

Whether it actually makes any noticeable difference or not, I don't know...

  5. bigger air tubes are available in carbon.....

  6. Thanks all, does not seem as this mod is as necessary as it is on the 900ss.
    Thanks for your comments.
