The warranty notes on me yellow 748 Biposto shows that it was first sold on 22nd. January 1999. The dealer was 'Brands Hatch' and the purchaser was 'Cadwell Park'. I have googled 'Cadwell Park 1999' and find images of what looks like yellow 748 monopostos being used for the 'Ducati Experience' and in one image there is a logo'd mono whith a bi posto in the background. Can anyone shed further light on this?
sorry, don't know the answer, but the COD in me, feels obliged to mention you've got a spelling mistake in the little 'bon mot' at the foot of your post..... good luck with the original question, intriguing one. Be interesting what transpires. p.s. going to count me collection of beer mats, again.....
if you google the image it appears on this page (as a 996!)..... http://www.zen50505.zen.co.uk/brgw/gallery/track/gallery-track.htm
Ducati Experience ran a number of 748's I beleive they were the entry level 748E machines, they were probably all supplied as Bips but were then put in trackday bodywork hence having the mono seat unit, I have a pic of me riding a red one at home somewhere from when I did it it Brands .... will be nigh on impossible to get specific data for your bike as none ran with numberplates but were all road bikes when delivered.
I think that you will find that the 748E was introduced in 2000 a full year after my bike and the ones used at Cadwell were made.
Fair enough, either way they were the bog standard 748 of the day, just had the bodywork swopped over to track fairings.
They may not have had numberplates fitted but mine was certainly road registered on 4th February 1999, a couple of weeks after purchase by Cadwell Park.
As per my original post, they were all road bikes ... all registered and then all ran as experience bikes, no different to the way CSS and Ron Haslam acquire, use and dispose of their school bikes ..... What history are you looking for ? Beyond the fact it was a student bike at the Ducati Exerience what is it you would like to try and learn ?
In that case I think you'll be disappointed as no one has any way of recognising your bike, any number of people may have ridden it but they all looked the same ......
I doesn't have to be about my particular bike. Infoirmation about the use they were put to any any memories from those who use them.
Ah, ok, well from my experience it was great fun, I'd only been riding about 18 months when my friend brought me the day as a leaving present as he was emigrating to Oz, was the very first time I ever rode a Ducati and one of my very first trackdays, was great fun, they seemed to attract a lot of people (like me) that maybe didn't have the wealth to run one but wanted to try them. They all seemed well prepped, none were really ragged from what I saw and the days were well run .....
It was a long time ago but when I remember the Brands Hatch Ducati experience, Brands Hatch ran it themselves and their bikes were Red and I am guessing they were 748's at the time. I do know Race Products supplied all the bodywork such as fairings, windscreens and front mudguards, I have one of the front mudguards they used to provide. All the bodywork was red gelcoat. I don't know if they had mono seats though. The bikes may have changed as each batch was sold off but I seem to think it ran for a few years in the late 1990's
Thanks gents. Keep the memories coming, I am quite enjoying them. Everyone knows about the big events it is the little things like first track experiences that I find faninating.
I know a couple of lads who were instructors at the Cadwell Ducati School, I'm sure they have some faninating stories about the 748s.
If they would like a chat my phone number is 01865 880626 and my name is Geoff. My e-mail address is [email protected] Thanks .
