Oil Emulsion

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by mbrads, May 5, 2014.

  1. I have a white emulsion in the sightglass have seen a few posts on the subject and put it down to short journeys, but have just done 3 or 4 hour plus runs and oil hasn't cleared, also had to top coolant up so it looks like coolant is getting into oil, is there an easy way to find out if it is?

  2. White emulsion is normally water vapour/ condensation in the oil/engine. Nothing to worry about if the bikes been stood or it's been cold.

Try doing another run, get the engine nice and hot. Then when you leave the bike remove the filler cap to let any excess condensation evaporate off.

Just don't forget to put it on before your next run!

If there's white gunk on the filler cap when you take it off, or signs of it in the engine then it could be coolant in the oil, indicating a head gasket could be on its way out.

Welcome to the forum. @mattmccabebrown could you move this to technical please?
